Hot rumor: iPhone coming to Wal-Mart at $99

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Cell Phones, Handhelds, Rumors

iPhone Wal-Mart $99Now remember, this is a rumor, but our friends over at the Boy Genuis Report are saying that they are hearing rumblings that the iPhone will be hitting Wal-Mart soon, and the price is going to be $99 a pop. Now, we’ve heard these Wal-Mart and iPhone rumors before, and we are almost certain that the iPhone will be hitting your local Wally World soon. However, the word here is that you’ll be able to pick up a 4GB iPhone, something that hasn’t been around for quite a while, for a Benjamin. Yeah, you lost out on the storage space, but seriously, this is Wal-Mart, and it’s a $99 iPhone. Expect updates on this one as soon as we hear more.

BlackBerry Bold available for free with plan

Posted by Patrick Phelps Categories: Cell Phones, Handhelds, Hot Deals

DescriptionThe new BlackBerry Bold, which was released yesterday, is suddenly coming to Wal-Mart at an amazing price: FREE.

Billed as the BlackBerry Bold Unlimited, the catch to this seemingly great deal is that you have to sign on with a two-year contract, at least a 1350 minute talk plan and unlimited text messaging, on top of the required BlackBerry data plan – not a bad deal if you talk and text that much anyway. The deal is through LetsTalk, if you’d like to skip the middleman and order direct from them.

Wal-Mart selling iPhone 3G during Black Friday?

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Cell Phones, Handhelds, Rumors

Wal-Mart iPhone 3G

You know, as much as we aren’t fan of Wal-Mart, we understand that it helps get products out to the masses. The latest rumor has Wal-Mart selling the during the lead-up to this years Black Friday. This would make Wal-Mart the second big box retailer in the US to carry the iPhone, with the first being Best Buy. As is the policy with Best Buy, AT&T, and the Apple Store, we’d expect that you would have to activate the iPhone at Wal-mart.

If this rumor proves true, we expect a lot more iPhone 3Gs to be sold this holiday, and by that, we mean even more than the enormous amount that we had already predicted. Hey, AT&T, would you mind beefing up your 3G access a bit more? It’s gonna get crowded.

Dell and Wal-Mart Create Solution Station

Dell/Wal-mart logosIt would appear that Dell is teaming with Wallyworld to create Solution Station, a service to help the electronically challenged. Help is offered for setting up PCs, TVs, wireless networks, entertainment centers, etc. Wal-mart plans to offer their service in the Dallas area in about 15 stores this month. Don’t try to pull a fast one on them as they only deal with “Dell and other branded systems.” Think of it as a bargain basement Geek Squad.

Apple is Second in Music Sales

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Apple, Corporate News, Music

NPD Group logoApple must be positively giddy at hearing the news that the iTunes Store is now the #2 retailer of music, second only to Wally World. The company claims that it sold 20 million tunes on Christmas Day alone. Based on an NPD Group survey, the top four also included Best Buy and Target. The study also concluded that about 29 million consumers, ages 36 to 50, acquired music legally. They were those that had recently purchased (or received) MP3 players. That was an increase of 5 mill over the year before. That’s a lot of assuaged guilt.

TV Converter Boxes Are Now Available

Magnavox STB

Wal-Mart has announced that they now have OTA (over the air) analog to digital converter boxes for sale. The Magnavox STB will set you back $49.87. If you remembered to send for your $40.00 coupon from the NTIA early, which should be arriving soon, that’s quite a savings. We also learned last week that Best Buy will be offering an Insignia converter box retailing at $59.99, beginning February 17, and will also accept the coupons.

Hybrids To Be Sold at Wally World

MINI Cooper

Hybrid Technologies removes internal combustion engines from cars and turns them into electric vehicles. Founder Richard Griffiths is trying to convince people to think of battery power as a high-end option. High-end indeed. Griffiths takes such cars as the Chrysler Crossfire, the PT Cruiser, and MINI Cooper and makes them hybrid. The result will be a $65,000 MAXI Cooper, which can run 120 miles on a charge and go from 0 to 60 mph in 6 seconds.

Here’s the rub. Griffiths plans on initially selling his electric cars through Wal-mart at a starting price of ~$35,000.00. We are not sure what that means unless he believes that the shopping place of the “everyman” will convince us to spend twice the cost. We have two questions. If the cars do not sell at that inflated price, will Wal-mart roll back their prices? And if so, will the cars be made in sweat shops like most of their clothing?

Hurry To Wally World for Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD Player at $98.87

Toshiba HD-A2

Wal-Mart has decided to sell the Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player at a discounted price of $98.87 to get the holiday shopping season started early. So much for the second gen Panasonic’s Bluray DMP. Slated for today only, if you are reading this, you are probably too late unless you are on the west coast and the time is before noon. They are also offering Acer laptops for $348.00 and Sanyo 50-inch Plasma HDTVs for $998.00.
We poked around to find what was going on at the other stores, where the player is still being offered for $299.99.  We did find a GPX Player at a sale price of $25.00 at Kmart. We know someone who bought one of these and although it is slow, it works. Now that’s a bargain.
