Okay, we know that some of us put all our stock into HD DVD, going all out on movies and players, only to be burned by the eventual Blu-ray victory. However, that also means that HD DVD player owners can enjoy some steep discounts on media for the failed format. As an example, Amazon is currently selling 99 HD DVD titles for $7.99. Seriously, perfectly good movies like The Bourne Supremacy, Army of Darkness, and the like, all for $7.99. Meanwhile, those of us buying Blu-ray are doing so at $20 or more a pop! See? Doesn’t that make you feel better about your HD DVD investment? We didn’t think so.

Netflix to Cease Selling Used DVDs

Netflix has decided to stop selling previously viewed DVDs. Some are as low as $5.99 and include such titles at that price as “Casino Royale,“ “Into the Wild,“ “Charlie Wilson’s War,“ “American Gangster,“ and “Spiderman 3.“ Of course there will also be suggestions according to your previous favorites. After November 30, they will focus on simply renting. That’s fine with us. We love the fact that we can watch a film as often or as much as we want and not have extra DVDs taking up space.

Well, here’s something we could get used to. Pangea, maker of popular App Store titles like Cro-Mag Rally and Enigmo, have put their entire line of apps on sale. This is obviously just going to be for a limited time only, but we can’t seem to find the end date of the promotion anywhere. In the meantime, just know that for now, the prices on Pangea App Store software is as follows:
- Enigmo: $4.99, down from $9.99
- Cro-Mag Ralley: $1.99, down from $5.99
- Billy Frontier: $3.99, down from $5.99

Ian Usher Sells His Life for $233,000

Talk about depressing. Ian Usher was obviously devastated when his wife left him since he decided to auction off his life on eBay. The Australian resident was hoping to raise $475,000.00 to make a fresh start. The package included most of his worldly possessions and a chance to take over his job. The first day it appeared that the bids went as high as $2.1 million. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a glitch in the system, so when all was said and done the highest bid was only $233,000. While that is only about half of what he would have liked, that seems enough to make a pretty decent start.

Parallels Desktop for Mac sells over 1 million units

If you were one of the Apple fanboy nay-sayers who swore that no one would ever want to run Windows on their Mac, it looks like Parallels just proved you wrong. The company just announced that they’ve surpassed one million units sold across the globe. If you stop and think about that for a second, you’ll realize that software like Parallels must be having a very significant effect to the Mac and computer market. We are guessing that, thanks to software like Parallels and VMWare Fusion, more and more people are willing to stray away from the WIndows PC to venture into Mac territory.

Now, don’t get us wrong - we know that Parallels can also run Linux and other operating systems as well - but seriously, the success if all about the fact that you can run Windows apps right alongside your Mac apps. Zlio Helps You Sell

If you are a budding entrepreneur but find that CafePress is too large to cope with, consider Zlio. The site launched originally in France in 2006, but arrived in the States this past January. You simply create a shop (or 50 of them,) and name it, choose a template, and feature products that you think would sell, such as electronics, clothing, toys, or this one that features its own category. It even caught the attention of Reuters.
By now there are over 200,000 online shops, but if you get creative, you can make a few bucks from commissions. You don’t have to buy your own products first or obtain a license, you only need to select what you want from more than 120 merchants featuring over 3 million products. Zlio’s founder and CEO Jeremie Berrebi says it best, “It’s the Tupperware party concept gone online.“

It’s hard to ignore a site that plays “Let’s Make a Deal” daily and offers electronic gadgets that we never knew we needed until we stumbled onto the site. The catch is that you cannot return the merchandise and when you sober up, you realize that with about 10 dictionaries hanging around the house, you could have done without Franklin’s Dictionary & MP3 Player for about $17.00, even if that cost is less than half its $40.00 retail price. Market Lodge Opens on Facebook

Are you a budding entrepreneur who is also addicted to Facebook? Market Lodge, which opened last week, feels that people are more likely to purchase goods or services that have been referred to by friends. The startup company bSocial Networks will pay site members a 10% commission on sales that come from recommendations. Members who want to utilize the application can now customize stores and select over 1,200 different products by about 50 distributors.
Facebook itself tried a marketing system last year but many were not pleased by Beacon, which tracked and shared their personal info. They now allow Beacon to be turned off. It remains to be seen if the site will ask for a percentage of sales from Market Lodge.
