Survivor: China: ‘High School Friend Contest’

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Survivor,

SurvivorAlthough he had managed to avoid another elimination, Jean-Robert was quite shaken up by the surprise turn of events.  Had Jaime possessed a real Immunity Idol, he would have just attended his last Tribal Council.  Sadly, the man still didn’t have a clue his exit could be coming someday soon.

Meanwhile, Amanda was growing concerned about James’ position in the game.  He was always a physical threat; now he was equipped with both Immunity Idols.  Would it even be possible for them to take him down now? Uhh – did anyone think about asking him to give the unused idol back?

Survivor: China: “I’m Not As Dumb As I Look”

Survivor ChinaBlindsided by Courtney and Sherea at Tribal Council, Jean-Robert was feeling a bit vulnerable back at Fei Long.  He supposedly had ‘no clue’ that there was so much tension at camp.  Hoping to smooth things over, Todd and Amanda assured him that Courtney’s feelings were hers and hers alone.  Todd said he really liked the hard-working man Jean-Robert had become.  Of course, hearing anyone make nice with Jean-Robert made Courtney feel sick.  It was especially hard to hear Todd and Amanda—the two people who claimed to be her friends—sound so supportive of her enemy.

Meanwhile at Zhan Hu, another level of butt-kissing was going on.  Despite originally planning to eliminate him, Peih-gee tried convincing James he was now part of the team.  She really wanted him to trust them.  After all, they did basically sacrifice one of their own people for him.  Believing their conversation ended well, Peih-gee left James to join Jaime and Erik by the water.  While they were busy conferring, James immediately started working on securing his second hidden immunity idol.  Unfortunately, it took him two tries because the first symbol he knocked down was actually blank on back.  Although he managed to quickly remove the correct idol without being detected, he didn’t have time to retrieve the blank one that had fallen to the ground.

Dennis Miller Set to Host Amne$ia

Dennis MillerYes folks, here comes another show from . This guy has more winning ideas in five minutes than most of us have in a lifetime. I’m convinced of it anyway. So, what is Amne$ia... and why can’t I remember anything about the premise? OK, that was a lame attempt at interjecting an amnesia joke in there. I admit it. Lame. Amne$ia is an game show that challenges the contestants’ memories. Sounds pretty average, right? Don’t a large bulk of TV game shows challenge the memory? Ah yes, perhaps about history or pop culture… but not Mark Burnett’s little gem. This show will actually question contestants about memories from their own past. Doesn’t that seem kind of easy, because, you know—it will be memories from the contestant’s own history? is set to host—and I think most folks either love Dennis or hate him. I am firmly in the love category since I adored him on Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update and thought his HBO show was pretty great too. No doubt that he’ll bring a funny edge to the program. Amne$ia will debut on NBC later this season. Heck, it’s worth tuning into anyway—count me in.

‘Man vs. Wild’ Returns in November

Bear GryllsLooks like that little snafu with Man vs. Wild’s had little fallout. If you’ve never seen the show on the , Grylls, a survivor expert, challenges various “wild” situations with only his skill to help him survive. Well, that and a helpful crew, it seems. He was found out a few months back when it was discovered that he was getting a little help on the survival series and that the scenarios he presented on the show were somewhat different in reality. Some reports said he stayed overnight in a motel when he was supposed to be braving the wild; another report said the folks on the show constructed a raft for him to use. Discovery continued to air the series, but edited it and offered a disclaimer that some of the show’s elements were staged. And now, he’s back for a second season of the reality series on November 9th at 9:00 p.m. He’ll also appear on a special called Bear’s Mission Everest at 10:00 p.m., where he’ll (attempt to) fly a paraglider in the Himalayas. In the upcoming season, he’ll visit the Sahara Desert, Panama and Patagonia. Discovery Channel president Jane Root commented, “We continue to seek out new exciting and daring adventures for Bear, and he continues to do what he does best. From an expedition documentary to hands-on demonstrations of life-saving tips for viewers, Bear Grylls brings out the adventurer in all of us.” This go-around, there will be no question about when the crew helps out… so Grylls should avoid any further media and fan criticism. See? He is a survival expert.

SurvivorDespite learning his new Zhan Hu teammates were plotting to get rid of him, James continued doing his menial chores at camp.  He figured all he could do until the next Tribal Council was make the best out of the situation at hand.

At Fei Long, Todd made a strategic move and revealed to Amanda everything he knew about a hidden Immunity Idol at camp.  He originally wasn’t planning on telling her until after he had secured its location, but he needed her help finding it.  He hoped that by winning the next Reward Challenge, they could get another clue about the idol’s whereabouts.  Assuming they would be temporarily kidnapping someone again from the opposing team, they made a plan to choose James.  They were certain their former Fei Long member would give them the extra scroll needed to finally take control of the game.

  • Live With Regis and Kelly (ABC, syndicated):  will be pulling double-duty this week as he fills in for Regis Philbin in NY and tapes his show in LA.  (I’m guessing we’ll still be seeing him on as well.)  If we’re lucky, Guillermo will fill in for Gelman too.
  • Prison Break (FOX, 8pm):  The show returns tonight after being preempted by baseball last week.  What?  You don’t care either?
  • Heroes (NBC, 9pm):  Many fans have been waiting for Kristen Bell’s debut tonight.  Unfortunately, she’s one more new character I’ll have to ignore.

‘Survivor’ Finale Date Announced

Posted by David Onda Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Survivor, News,

Survivor: China finale on December 16My own personal jury is still out on whether I like the latest season of CBS’s . I have a feeling that the tempo won’t pick up until the two teams merge - if, of course, they do at all. has been known to throw contestants (and viewers) a twist here and there. Either way, I’ve watched this much so I’d be stupid to not want to see how it ends. And this year’s finale will be broadcast on a special night and time:  Sunday, December 16 from 8-10 p.m. ET.

The finale will be followed by the obligatory live cast reunion show from 10-11 p.m. in which all 16 castaways will see each other for the first time since China - looking hot and healthy and in no way angry at each other for the backstabbing and lies. The reunion show is only good for finding out if anyone actually hooked up during the season. Otherwise, it’s garbage.

Survivor: China: ‘Love Is In The Air’

Survivor ChinaWith boss man Dave now voted off, the remaining members of Zhan Hu were able to enjoy a leisurely day of rest. (In other words, they all pulled a Sherea.)  But despite the lack of conflict around camp, Frosti was feeling a bit uneasy.  Tired of losing, the student athlete was eager for something different.  Meanwhile, a flirtation between Jaime and Erik started to blossom.  After a whopping 13 days together, they hadn’t yet pinpointed each other’s faults.  Believing she could trust Erik (he did, after all, ‘fess up to being a virgin), Jaime decided to share her knowledge about a hidden immunity idol.

At Fei Long, James and Denise continued their hard work around camp.  The unusual pair had formed a strong bond and respect during their time together.  Later, the tribe welcomed a surprise guest: a fisherman with a game-changing message.  The group was instructed to choose two Zhan Hu warriors who could best benefit their team.  Once selected, the competitors would be brought to their camp.  Fei Long was apprehensive about making a choice because they realized what this would mean:  two of their tribal members would soon be gone.  Of course, Zhan Hu would take James—but who else would they snag?  Hoping to steal their strongest options, Fei Long picked Frosti and Sherea.
