The American Idol summer tour has officially been announced. In case you just can’t get enough of Idol, here’s your chance to catch the top 10 finalists performing live. I don’t want to get too down on Idol, but at this point, I just want the whole thing to be over. Not sure I could endure a live show after a very long season. Finishing in the top 10 definitely has its perks though—they’re booked for 56 shows—so their 10 minutes of fame could get a nice little extension (I’m looking at you, Sanjaya). Charity week’s over…so enough of the niceties. Two people will be going home this week—and with the sacrificial lamb (Sanjaya) already gone, there aren’t many left to choose from.

Jon Bon Jovi was on hand this week to help guide—and weed out—the singers.  As a thank you, the contestants did their best to avoid butchering his songs.  Who managed to rock it out and who just ended up sounding like bad medicine?  Read on!

It took six seasons for the producers of American Idol to finally realize that they had Oprah-esque potential to inspire acts of charity.  But better late then never, right?

Taking advantage of their large audience, AI and its sponsors reminded the viewers (and themselves) how superficial a singing contest really is.  In an attempt to lessen our collective guilt and help people around the world—the viewers were given the opportunity to donate to charity simply by doing what they’ve been doing for weeks:  voting.  For every call made tonight, $.10 would be donated to charity—up to $5 million in total.

So in keeping with tonight’s theme, the contestants were charged with performing ‘songs of inspiration’.  But were they successful in getting people to vote for them?  Read on!

Okay – am I the only who thinks that Diana Ross is getting a lot of free publicity thanks to Dreamgirls?  The Oscars have already come and gone…yet thanks to American Idol, we’ll still be talking about her after tonight’s ‘theme’ show.

Yes, yes, yes…Diana Ross and The Supremes were a great group.  But are we really prepared to hear male interpretations of their songs?  And more importantly, we will have to endure Sanjaya singing Baby Love?
