Chord Overstreet, whom fans probably won’t recognize from his brief appearance on iCarly, has officially joined the cast of Glee in a recurring role. Chord appeared on a single episode of iCarly in 2009, playing a character named simply “Eric.” He also played “teenage boy” in the 2009 movie The Hole.
In other words: Overstreet is a relative unknown who will bring some fresh blood to Glee, which is packing in newcomers and guest stars for it’s highly-touted second season (scheduled to begin airing on September 21). Overstreet plays Sam, a character whom Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith) befriends and mentors. Sam takes Finn’s direction so well, he soon becomes serious competition for the singer. The role of Sam will appear in more than one episode, but producers aren’t providing more details about his longevity with the New Directions glee club.

UPDATE: Holmes’ rep says the rumor is not true. (Thank goodness.)
Even if Julia Roberts doesn’t make a guest appearance on Glee, there’s a very good chance another Oscar winner will.
According to Entertainment Weekly, one of Julia’s co-stars is reportedly scheduled to visit the FOX series next season. Javier Bardem, who also worked with creator Ryan Murphy when he directed Eat Pray Love, reportedly pitched the idea of a cameo.
So what will the No Country for Old Men star do on the comedy? “We’re going to rock the house,” Javier said about playing a rock star who becomes friends with the New Directions’ Artie (Kevin McHale). “We’re going to do some heavy metal — Spanish heavy metal, which is the worst.” (In the event you’re wondering about Bardem’s singing abilities, he was original supposedly to star in the film adaptation of Nine.)
Meanwhile, it’s being rumored that Katie Holmes has snagged a five-episode arc on the series as well. Holmes reportedly developed a relationship with Murphy after working with Dianna Agron on the upcoming film The Romantics.
