‘Star Trek’ Remastered for HD DVD

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Animation, Sci-Fi/Horror, DVD, HDTV, Video,

Star Trek original castHighly original and ground-breaking in its day, offered viewers a glimpse of the possible future. Now, it is the future…and Trek is offering viewers a glimpse of what the series might have been if it were made today.

In a new set, season one of The Original Series is being released to the public with digitally enhanced footage. Here’s the problem: true don’t want anything digitally remastered or updated. The perfection is in the purity.  The exterior special effects features on TOS were updated and enhanced with technology. In some scenes, entire ships were replaced by digital effects.

The new additions look great and may help re-introduce younger generations to this old favorite, but some die-hard Trekkies will no doubt be up in arms over any change, no matter how great-looking.

Writers Strike Begins

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Daytime, Late Night, News,

DescriptionIt’s official – the has gone on strike after negotiations with the failed.  Picketers will make their stance in New York City and Los Angeles until a deal can be reached. Writers are demanding more revenue from DVD sales, but the producers refuse to give in. Late night talk shows will be the first to stop airing new episodes, as these programs remain very current in news and events. Daytime TV, which tapes about a week’s worth of shows in advance, will be the next casualty of the strike. Most studios have dozens of scripts stockpiled for favorite TV series and new movies, enough to last until early next year. The strike may set a precedent for the , as contracts are scheduled to run out next June.

Shrek the Halls With a Big Green Ogre

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Animation, Kids, Prime Time, ABC,

Shrek the Halls Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la! Not only will Shrek the Third be coming to DVD soon (November 13), but will be airing a Christmas special with the loveable green guy and his band of kooky friends. I don’t know how well it will hold up to classic fan favorites like How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman or A Charlie Brown Christmas, but I’m all for a new Christmas special that isn’t another sequel to Frosty. Shrek the Halls will air on November 28th at 8:00 p.m. and will no doubt thrill kids with the animation and voice talents of , , and . The ogre’s humbug ways are challenged by his family and friends (even the Gingerbread Man of “Not my gumdrop buttons!” infamy is on hand) and you can bet the gang will make the holidays truly special. Because that’s how all Christmas specials end, right? Now I’d like to see Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas return to television—you can keep your Frosty Returns and Frosty’s Winter Wonderland—bring on the jug band!
