New judges won’t be the only new things fans – and contestants – see in Season 10.

According to , the latest round of wannabes will be asked to do more than just sing their songs.

When the program returns in January, viewers will follow the Top 12 as they learn how to create music videos, work with dancers and even promote themselves.

American Idol’s Online Auditions Open


Didn’t get a chance to make it Nashville, Milwaukee, New Orleans, East Rutherford, Austin or San Francisco this summer? You can still … if you’ve got an Internet connection and a webcam.

American Idol has opened up MySpace auditions, allowing would-be contestants to submit videos of themselves online. There are less than 24 hours left in the submission window, so start warming up those pipes. Watch host explain the whole thing in the video above.

American Idol 10: Carmina Salcido, Contestant, Survivor, Singer


The Sonoma News recently reported that Carmina Salcido, 24, has made it through the first round of her San Francisco American Idol audition.

Carmina is a bit of a celebrity in Sonoma, but not for her singing voice. Salcido made national headlines at the age of three, the only survivor in a massacre that left seven dead and her throat almost fatally slit open. The perpetrator? Carmina’s father, Ramon Salcido.

American Idol Lowers Age Requirement, Announces Audition Dates

A new judge won’t be the only thing viewers see next year. Younger faces will also come included in Season 10’s package.

When auditions start up in three weeks, singers not even old enough to drive will be dropped off by their parents. That’s right - the contest will now be open to 15-year-olds. (Previous wannabes had to be at least 16 years of age.)

“A lot of young, talented people are now seeking careers and representation before they turn 16,” Idol‘s executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz explained about the rule change. “Lowering the age limit allows us to tap into this talent pool.”

American Idol 9: Chicago Auditions

visited the Windy City, opening this audition episode with a montage of angry, rejected contestants. It was an auspicious beginning. Shania Twain was the guest judge for this city, a development which seemed to thrill Kara DioGuardi.

The crowds who waited chanted “Yes, We Can,” in honor of Barack Obama, who called the city home until taking up residence at 1600 Pennsylvania in Washington, D.C. Viewers were quickly taken into the story of , a pretty blonde (dyed) with pretty ringlets. Her low, sultry voice quickly proved that there’s more to her than what meets the eye, and Katelyn earned praise from the judges. “I think you have a voice that could sing a hit song, I think,” Shania Twain generously told her. Epperly earned her golden ticket, and the Chicago auditions were well under way.

The Show Must Go On: Idol Continues Without Abdul

Victoria BeckhamPosh Spice, a.k.a. Victoria Beckham, joined Kara, Simon and Randy today for auditions in Denver, Colorado. “We gotta try and make it work, man,” said Randy Jackson of doing the show without it’s original female judge.

Kara DioGuardi said she’s “completely shocked” and that ’s absence is “such a loss for the show and the contestants.”

Apparently, Posh and Simon Cowell already have a history together - Cowell turned down the Spice Girls. “I think he’s great,” a smiling told reporters.
