The good folks at Vote For the Worst have obtained a list of American Idol’s Top 24, which was revealed to contestants about the same time we were all watching them perform on stage for Hollywood’s Group Night. Many of the expected names are on the list (the show can only feature the same contestants so many times before it becomes obvious), but that doesn’t mean there are no surprises.

American Idol 9’s Early Top 24 Reveal

American Idol

In what could be considered a rather extreme deviation for a show that very strictly follows its own formula, will reveal some of the Top 24 in Tuesday’s episode. The two-hour event will precede the Wednesday reveal, where the rest of the names in this elite singing group will be shared.

Since the list of the has been making the rounds on the Internet for weeks, it’s all quite anti-climactic. If the list turns out to be untrue and we end up with an entirely unexpected group of Idols, that might be worth the multiple-hour, two-day hypefest.

American Idol 9: Group Night


It’s group night in Hollywood, which is always a drama-filled festival filled with massive amounts of tears, screaming…and some singing, too. It’s likely the best episode of , and what a pity it comes so early in the season.

Group night is about performance and showmanship, and some singers are more apt to bring that than others. The most talented performers often find each other, as was once the case with Blake Lewis, Chris Sligh, Rudy Cárdenas and Tom Low in Season 6. It’s the task of every group to choose a number, assign parts and work out some choreography. Naturally, some are more successful than others, but those with real chops usually manage to come out of group night unscathed.

Contestant Cut from American Idol 9’s Top 24

American Idol logo SPOIL?ER?–noun

1. A published piece of information that divulges a surprise, such as a plot twist in a movie.
2. A family member who opens stupidly their mouth and ruins your chances of becoming a singing sensation.

Although we thought we knew the Top 24 names competing to be your next American Idol, there’s been a last-minute change to the list.

One contestant has reportedly been pulled from the roster due to an unfortunate error in judgment. Want to know the name? Find out after the jump!
