CBS Greenlights Two New Reality Pilots

CBS Adds New PilotsLook for more divorce and crime in CBS’ future primetime line-up. But In this case both will be real.

The Hollywood Reporter says that has given the go ahead to develop two new reality pilots. One is called and will be executive produced by prank show king and actor . The other, still untitled project comes from Tom Forman, the creator and executive producer of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and executive producer of CBS’ Kid Nation.

Splitsville is reportedly a game show for couples going through a divorce (since that is ALWAYS entertaining to watch). The divorcing couples will battle it out for their own belongings in a series of challenges. It’s described as The War of the Roses meets Let’s Make a Deal.

The other project, by Tom Forman, is a bit more serious. It reportedly features a team of law enforcement professionals who help people who have been crime victims.

Ty Pennington’s DUI Arrest

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Gossip,

Extreme Makeover, Ty Pennington Tsk, tsk, Ty Pennington. The megaphone barking host of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was arrested for DUI over the weekend. He was arrested at 12:15 a.m. on Saturday and released a couple of hours later after posting $5,000 bail. Pennington will head to court on June 4th. He made the following statement: “I made an error in judgment. We all make mistakes, however this is about accountability. Under no circumstances should anyone consume alcohol while driving. I could have jeopardized the lives of others and I am grateful there was no accident or harm done to anyone. This was my wake-up call. I also want to apologize to my fans, ABC Television and my design team for my lapse in judgment and the embarrassment I have caused.” You know, Ty used to appeal to me when he was the carpenter on Trading Spaces—a fun-loving guy who had a good sense of humor. But when he took on Makeover, I couldn’t stand him any more. Maybe it’s the megaphone or his need to bogart the camera as much as possible. Curious what this arrest will do for ratings and fans of the show.

Extreme Makeover Makes a Comeback

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Animation, Prime Time, Reality, ABC,

ABC logoUgh. I don’t know who this is good news to, but the original Extreme Makeover will be coming back to ABC on Friday nights. The show will begin airing next week, October 20th at 8:00 PM. You know the one, where plastic surgery serves as the cure-all for any and all imperfections that their ‘contestants’ (is that what you call them? participants?) need tending to. The crack team of surgeons, cosmetic dentists, hair and makeup artists, and stylists give each candidate the works. It’s cringe-worthy at best, but I admit to watching Doctor 90210 (until they actually show the surgery), so I’m not perfect either. I guess I’m most intrigued by why people feel they need to have all of this “work” done. Extreme Makeover takes it to the limit, however—their spin-off for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is slightly more palatable because homes are getting the makeover, not people. The show will begin next week, then take a Friday off for an airing of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown. The show will continue through November sweeps. Extreme Makeover last aired in August of 2005.
