On Gear Live: Xiaomi 17 Review: The Compact Flagship That Forgot to Act Small

America's Next Top Model

MONDAY (2/18)
  • Prison Break (FOX, 8pm):  Tonight may be the end of the show as we currently know it.  Maybe Michael can finally let go of that steely gaze now.
  • Dance War (ABC, 8pm):  The next contenders will be announced during the spinoff’s season finale.  Finally, a reason for me to watch.
  • Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious (CW, 9pm):  Robin Antin is searching for a gal to complete an entirely different musical act.  With Danity Kane already taken, she had to settle for the 2nd crappiest group name available.
  • My Dad is Better Than Your Dad (NBC, 9pm):  “This competition series features fathers and their children in challenges that test the patriarch’s strength, intelligence and parenting skills.”  Since when did NBC start stealing ideas from ?

Deal or No Deal - Howie MandelThere’s no nice way to say it: has had trouble in the ratings department the last few seasons. In an ever-increasing attempt to compete with the runaway success of and keep their own reality contest relevant, the network has launched a promotional tactic that’s doing nothing but mounting: The Million-Dollar Mission.

Every time a contestant on fails to win that million-dollar case, another million gets added. As of Wednesday’s Idol-competing episode, they were up to 13 (that’s right 13) million-dollar cases. The contestant has been chosen and the game is under way…but will she go far enough to get the prize?

According to the show’s official site, the mission will continue through next week. NBC is also throwing a special Deal or No Deal episode at fans Thursday night to drum up more excitement and ratings for the show. Host says he won’t give up until a million is given away…but how long will that take?

Ok, well kind of…

Tina Fey, SNL‘s former head writer and co-anchor of the ‘Weekend Update’, will be making a welcome return to her old stomping grounds.  But instead of taking the lead behind the scenes, the recent Golden Globe-winner will be front and center on the main stage.  On Feb. 23rd, the 30 Rock star will be the host of .

With or without Fey, the late-night program will undoubtedly receive a warm reception when it reboots next weekend.  Fans not only need something - anything - new to watch, they desperately need some political satire.  Stat.  It’ll be interesting to see how the variety show encapsulates almost four months of election news.

A week after Tina’s gig, another big-named guest will help bring laughter back to Saturday nights: Juno‘s .

Writers Guild of America logoWe can officially start the jig now.

After more than 3 months on the picket lines, the has finally announced an end to their strike.  Of the 3,775 votes cast, 92.5% elected to stop the walkout.  This means WGA members can resume doing what they do best starting tomorrow.

While it may be weeks before we see new episodes of our favorite shows, this news will immediately affect those programs that churn out daily fare.  This means we should expect to see the return of late-night monologues ASAP.  Meanwhile, the folks behind anticipate a brand new show come Feb. 23rd.  (Of course, in true SNL fashion, that will probably be followed up by a repeat the following weekend.)

Of course, we could be revisiting this whole work stoppage issue again at the end of June; that’s when the current contract between SAG/AFTRA and the is set to expire.

But let’s just think happy thoughts until then, okay?
