Kevin EubanksUPDATE: Eubanks says he won’t be leaving the show altogether, but admits he’ll be on the program “less.”


Will ‘s old audience return to the revamped Tonight Show? That remains to be seen. But there will be at least one person who won’t be hanging around for the next go-around.

After 18 years working with Leno, bandleader Kevin Eubanks has decided to break away from NBC. Although his exact departure date is unknown, Kevin will eventually leave to pursue other projects. An insider claims the jazz guitarist made the decision because he simply “wanted a change.”

No announcement has yet been made about Eubank’s possible replacement.

Meanwhile, John Melendez will also be ending his announcer duties on the program. Melendez, though, is expected to stay on with as a writer.

The have spoken, and actress Betty White has answered. At the start of this week, the campaign titled “Betty White to Host SNL (please?)!” had picked up a staggering 330,000 followers. In response, White told press she’s “just amazed” by it all.

“I would think by now that they’ve had such an overdose of that they’d be throwing rocks instead,” the actress, 88, joked amicably.
