Pulled South Park Episode Will Air Again

Good news! Comedy Central has finally declared that it’s okay to make fun of Tom Cruise!
Variety has reported that the cable network will re-air the controversial South Park episode “Trapped in the Closet” on July 19. The Emmy-nominated episode, which skewers Tom Cruise and Scientology, originally aired in November 2005, but was pulled from the network’s repeat rotation back in May.
Apparently, creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have been very unhappy with the network, and the choice to re-air the episode may help to alleviate the situation. Stone stated, “If they hadn’t put this episode back on the air, we’d have had serious issues, and we wouldn’t be doing anything else with them.” I’m sure the network didn’t want to alienate the creators of one of their most popular shows, especially after the debacle with Dave Chappelle.
Now, if only the show could convince Isaac Hayes not to be so offended by the episode, we’d be all set.

The Best (and Worst) Shows of 2005-06
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Reality, ABC, Cable, CBS, FX, FOX, HBO, NBC, 24, Amazing Race, The, American Idol, Apprentice, The - Donald, Degrassi, Lost, My Name Is Earl, Prison Break, Scrubs, The Office, The Sopranos,
In a recent edition of Broadcasting & Cable, the trade magazine presented a list of the Best Shows on TV for the 2005-06 season. The 2nd annual poll, based on the views of 111 critics, didn’t reveal many shocking choices overall…but does give much love to some underappreciated gems. Let’s see how your choices compare:
BEST SHOW
BEST DRAMA:
Gold: Lost (ABC)—Really not much of a surprise on any of these choices. It’s only shocking to remember that Lost is the only one of these three to be shut out of the Best Drama category for the upcoming Emmys.
Silver: 24 (FOX)
Bronze: The Sopranos (HBO)
BEST COMEDY:
Gold: The Office (NBC)
Silver: My Name is Earl (NBC)
Bronze: Scrubs (NBC)—Woo hoo! Even if NBC doesn’t respect the comedic gem enough to give it a regular time slot (and a fall start), it’s reassuring to know that the show is still being noticed.
BEST REALITY:
Gold: American Idol (FOX)
Silver: The Amazing Race (CBS)—Race may not be able to compete against Idol in the ratings department, but it still wins in my heart. No popularity contests here. The prize goes to those who simply stick it out.
Bronze: Project Runway (Bravo)—Heidi Klum has it all. Good looks, two cute kids, a sexy husband—and now a highly respected show. I hate her. I may enjoy watching her show..but I still hate her.
BEST NEW SHOW:
Gold: My Name is Earl (NBC)
Silver: Prison Break (FOX)
Bronze: Big Love (HBO)—Although I’m personally obsessed with polygamy-based stories, I feared the subject might be too taboo for the average audience. Regardless of the subject matter, this show has been a hoot to watch..and it doesn’t hurt that Bill Paxton is still quite easy on the eyes. No wonder three women want to bear his children.
WORST SHOW:
Gold: Unan1mous (FOX)
Silver: The War at Home (FOX)
Bronze: The Apprentice (NBC)—While I will have to admit that my interest in this show has waned over the past year or so, I don’t think it’s one of the worst shows out there. But if Donald continues to make creepy remarks about the attractive females on his show, I may have to call the FCC myself.
CABLE NETWORK MORE PEOPLE SHOULD WATCH:
Gold: BBC America
Silver: FX
Bronze: The N—- Degrassi, Degrassi, Degrassi. I’ve said it before and I will say it again. The N is home to the best drama for teens…ever.
MOST MEMORABLE TV MOMENT:
Gold: Coverage of Hurricane Katrina
Silver: Uncle Junior shoots Tony on The Sopranos (HBO)
Bronze: Michael shoots Ana-Lucia and Libby on Lost (ABC)—I admit, I don’t watch The Sopranos so I may be a bit biased here. But Michael shot two people. That should definitely earn him a higher medal than Uncle Junior. I dare say Michael even deserves the gold, but he can’t compete with Nature.

Why You Should Watch It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Posted by Christina Furtado Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, Cable, FX, Editorial,
If you’re not yet watching FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, you need to start, especially if you were a fan of shows like Seinfeld or Arrested Development. Like those shows, It’s Always Sunny excels at creating an amoral, dysfunctional group dynamic. The gang, consisting of Charlie, Mac, siblings Dennis and Dee, and their father, Frank (played by Danny DeVito), is a collection of losers who continually get into hilarious scrapes.
For example, last night, Dennis and Dee quit working at the gang’s bar after their father buys into it. Instead of trying to find new jobs, they decide to try to scheme their way onto welfare: “Hello. I’m a recovering crackhead . This is my retarded sister that I take care of. I’d like some welfare, please.” Of course, neither of them see anything wrong with this plan, and Dee even wears a pink bike helmet in order to look “retarded.” They even go on to actually buy crack from a dealer as if they were ordering a Happy Meal at the McDonald’s drive thru: “One, please.” This is just a taste of the wonderfully politically incorrect humor of this show, and the fact that it airs on FX allows it a lot of leeway in terms of what the characters can do and say. However, even though the characters are all pretty horrible people, they also seem just like those people you knew from college who never quite grew up afterwards.
I tried watching a couple of episodes of the first season of this show last year, but I think I wasn’t paying proper attention because it didn’t really catch me. But when FX started pushing this season heavily, and hilarious spots for it kept coming on during Rescue Me, I decided to give it another go and downloaded the first season (seven episodes) from iTunes. It’s well worth catching up on the show that way. This season is just as funny, and Danny DeVito makes a solid, if not entirely necessary, addition to the cast.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia airs at 10 PM on Thursdays on the FX network, and I’m sure this week’s episodes will repeat at some point. Watch it now!

Already known for her appearances in Dodgeball and Zoolander, Christine Taylor is now slated to star in yet another comedic project connected to her husband, Ben Stiller. The unnamed pilot for CBS revolves around a small-town woman who makes it big time in Hollywood. Already scheduled to produce and direct the pilot, Stiller also plans to have a recurring role as—surprise, surprise—her husband. In case you may have forgotten—Taylor has had projects not subject to nepotism, including The Brady Bunch Movie and a recent stint on My Name is Earl.

In what may very well be the best news of my day, the Hollywood Reporter reports that the Brit version of The Office may be a movie in the making. The BBC is hoping to move into feature films and is beginning their film venture with projects based on their TV offerings. Among those being considered are a sketch comedy show called Little Britain, as well as Extras and The Office, both Ricky Gervais/Stephen Merchant series.
This move to the big screen allows BBC to easily translate some well-known British staples, getting their feet wet before branching into other feature films. BBC Films has already invested in several recent comedy projects and would like to continue growing the comedy genre.
I for one can’t get enough of Ricky Gervais and his comedy genius. While I love the American version of The Office, the British version will always be a classic.

Cars Writer to Pen NBC Comedy
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, My Name Is Earl, Scrubs,
NBC just gave the go-ahead for a comedy pilot from “Cars” writer Dan Fogelman, called Lipshitz Saves the World. The project will be directed by Chris Koch, who directed other NBC faves My Name Is Earl and Scrubs.
Lipshitz focuses on 17-year-old Adam Lipshitz, who discovers that he might be destined to save the world. Fogelman compares the show as “if Keanu Reeves wasn’t good-looking and ‘The Matrix’ was not a movie but a pilot for NBC.”
Lipshitz is the first pilot NBC has ordered since announcing the fall schedule in May. According to NBC Senior Vice President Comedy Jeff Ingold, “We had been eager to work with Dan, so we jumped fast after reading this spec. It has a big comedic idea driving it, just like his feature work.”

Chappelle’s Lost Episodes Air Sunday
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Cable, Talent, DVD,
Perhaps no one – not even Dave Chappelle himself – can explain why he up and left the lucrative deal that Comedy Central offered him to continue his show. The first season of Chappelle’s Show is the top-selling TV on DVD release, with over 3.5 million units sold. Season 2’s DVD is the third highest-selling TV on DVD release of all time, with 2.5 million units sold. Not too shabby, but the execs at Comedy Central apparently rubbed Dave the wrong way and wanted to control too much of his show, so he bailed. This left the fans wanting more, and luckily they’ll be able to get more this Sunday, July 9th, when Comedy Central airs Chappelle’s Show: The Lost Episodes. While the episodes are sketches Dave completed prior to leaving the series, they should give fans a taste of what they’ve been missing while whetting their appetite for the release of Chappelle’s Show: The Lost Episodes Uncensored DVD, coming out on Tuesday, July 25.
Charlie Murphy and Donnell Rawlings, both Chappelle’s Show regulars, will do the sketch intros for Sunday’s airing since Chappelle never filmed the intros before his departure.

Katharine McPhee and Aquaman?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, HBO, American Idol, Entourage, Features,
In the August issue of Teen People, Katharine McPhee reveals that she recently auditioned for the HBO hit Entourage. The young female character would have a fling with actor Vincent Chase (a.k.a. ‘Aquaman’). No word yet whether Katharine has landed the role—but I’m actually hoping she doesn’t get it. Although the show thrives on actors playing true-to-life cameos, I think that bringing on any contestant from American Idol would cheapen the show—whether they are playing themselves or not. The producers of Entourage should leave the bit parts for the real actors.

Ari predicted that Vince would have offers pouring in as soon as the movie opened at #1. Now that it has, Eric is calling Ari bright and early Monday morning wanting him to pay up. Claiming that his word is good, Ari tells them to get to his office first thing. Turtle, Drama and Eric try to make a clean getaway, but Dom manages to wake up in time for the meeting… and just in time to take the driver’s seat away from Turtle once again. As they approach Ari’s office, Eric asks Dom to be on his best behavior. Having been rehabilitated by the State of New York, Dom claims that he is a changed man. But he is still willing to beat up the ‘Oriental’ (Lloyd) if he catches him looking at him.
