This Week on TV (11/5-11/11)
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Comedy, Drama, Games, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, Bravo, Cable, CBS, FX, FOX, NBC, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, Dancing With The Stars, Desperate Housewives, Everybody Hates Chris, Grey’s Anatomy, Nip/Tuck, Prison Break,

**NBC will devote this whole week to the environment and inject something ‘green’ into all their shows. To enjoy it, we must turn on our TVs.**
MONDAY (11/5)
**Special times for the ABC lineup tonight; Dancing With The Stars runs until 9:45 (pushing everything else 15 minutes late).**
- Prison Break (FOX, 8pm): Two-hour episode. Michael finally learns that Sara has been murdered tonight. I’m curious to see how steely his eyes can get.
- Everybody Hates Chris (CW, 8pm): ‘When Chris joins the writing staff of the school newspaper, he makes up a story about a serial killer that causes a panic in the community.’ This is what people get when they don’t pay for a real newspaper.
- How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8pm): ‘Marshall learns Lily’s dirty little financial secret when he and she decide to buy an apartment.’ As Suze Orman would say: “If he didn’t realize how many pairs of shoes she had, he’s equally to blame.”
- The Big Bang Theory (CBS, 8:30pm): ‘The guys ask Penny to join their ‘Halo’ team.’ The only time boys ask me to play Halo is when they need someone to kill.

Late Night Repeats for Writer-less Talk Shows
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Late Night, Talk Shows, ABC, Cable, NBC, Syndication, General Hospital, Saturday Night Live, News,
If the Writers Guild of America strikes on Monday as scheduled, you can expect a slate of late-night reruns to put you to bed. Assuming a last-minute Sunday mediation session doesn’t prevent the 12,000 WGA members from walking out, daily productions ranging from The Colbert Report to Late Night with Conan O’Brien will immediately go into repeats. So much for November sweeps.
The impact will not necessarily be limited to evening fare; daytime chatfests like The Ellen Degeneres Show may be affected as well. Fortunately soap operas like my fave, General Hospital, have stockpiled scripts that should leave them immune for months to come.
Tonight’s Saturday Night Live with Brian Williams could also be the last Lorne Michaels production for some time. But given SNL’s lame tendency to air repeats anyway, who’d even notice?

Vanessa Hudgens Offered Raise for ‘High School Musical 3’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Kids, Music, Cable, Editorial, Gossip, News,
Wow. Wow. Ladies and gents, it’s now official. Apparently sex does sell.
Despite her now infamous photo scandal, Vanessa Hudgens has been asked back for High School Musical 3. And though Disney could have used the embarrassment as reason to lowball their offer, they have instead rewarded the nudie queen with a raise. According to Us Magazine, Ashley Tisdale has also been confirmed for the sequel—though I doubt her paycheck will be as ‘substantial’ as the one reportedly given to Hudgens.
I’m still not really not sure why I was surprised to hear this news. As a former marketing major, I’m fully aware there’s no such thing as bad publicity. And given Britney’s ability to still launch a hit album these days, it’s apparent the public really doesn’t care what celebrities do in their private lives anymore.
Now if Sabrina Bryan or any of the other Cheetah Girls were smart enough, they’d get themselves into some ‘trouble’ real quick; apparently Disney’s willing to shell out the dough.

Dennis Miller Set to Host Amne$ia
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Games, Prime Time, Cable, NBC, Apprentice, The - Donald, Rock Star, Survivor,
Yes folks, here comes another show from Mark Burnett. This guy has more winning ideas in five minutes than most of us have in a lifetime. I’m convinced of it anyway. So, what is Amne$ia... and why can’t I remember anything about the premise? OK, that was a lame attempt at interjecting an amnesia joke in there. I admit it. Lame. Amne$ia is an NBC game show that challenges the contestants’ memories. Sounds pretty average, right? Don’t a large bulk of TV game shows challenge the memory? Ah yes, perhaps about history or pop culture… but not Mark Burnett’s little gem. This show will actually question contestants about memories from their own past. Doesn’t that seem kind of easy, because, you know—it will be memories from the contestant’s own history? Dennis Miller is set to host—and I think most folks either love Dennis or hate him. I am firmly in the love category since I adored him on Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update and thought his HBO show was pretty great too. No doubt that he’ll bring a funny edge to the program. Amne$ia will debut on NBC later this season. Heck, it’s worth tuning into anyway—count me in.

Colbert Campaign Halted

According to party executives, satirical comedian Stephen Colbert will not appear on the Democratic Primary ballot for the state of South Carolina. The party voted against Colbert’s campaign, though just last weekend the funnyman enjoyed a huge welcome from the state. Party execs met earlier this week to decide which candidates will appear on the ballot, and the Comedy Central variety show host was not on the long list. A thirty-five thousand dollar fee is likely to keep Colbert off the Republican ballot as well, meaning this week could be the quick end to Colbert’s short campaign. And though fans of the Colbert Nation will be in an uproar because of the news, there are many who think this is the right decision. Keeping popular candidates out of the election, which has become a national free-for-all for a ton of politicians, is apparently all part of the Democratic process.

‘Man vs. Wild’ Returns in November
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Specials, Cable, Gossip, Rumors,
Looks like that little snafu with Man vs. Wild’s Bear Grylls had little fallout. If you’ve never seen the show on the Discovery channel, Grylls, a survivor expert, challenges various “wild” situations with only his skill to help him survive. Well, that and a helpful crew, it seems. He was found out a few months back when it was discovered that he was getting a little help on the survival series and that the scenarios he presented on the show were somewhat different in reality. Some reports said he stayed overnight in a motel when he was supposed to be braving the wild; another report said the folks on the show constructed a raft for him to use. Discovery continued to air the series, but edited it and offered a disclaimer that some of the show’s elements were staged. And now, he’s back for a second season of the reality series on November 9th at 9:00 p.m. He’ll also appear on a special called Bear’s Mission Everest at 10:00 p.m., where he’ll (attempt to) fly a paraglider in the Himalayas. In the upcoming season, he’ll visit the Sahara Desert, Panama and Patagonia. Discovery Channel president Jane Root commented, “We continue to seek out new exciting and daring adventures for Bear, and he continues to do what he does best. From an expedition documentary to hands-on demonstrations of life-saving tips for viewers, Bear Grylls brings out the adventurer in all of us.” This go-around, there will be no question about when the crew helps out… so Grylls should avoid any further media and fan criticism. See? He is a survival expert.

Nip/Tuck in LA: Did You Like The Move?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Cable, FX, Nip/Tuck, Editorial,
When Sean and Christian made the move to LA at the end of last season, I was a bit worried. After several successful years in Miami, would this be the time when Nip/Tuck officially jumped the shark? But after watching the Season 5 premiere, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the reinvigorated series. A change in location was exactly what the show - and the viewers - needed.
For those who didn’t get to watch last night’s episode (or completely disagree with me altogether), let me tell you what I loved about the debut.

Stephen Colbert Honored in South Carolina
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Late Night, Talk Shows, Cable, Daily Show, The, Gossip, News,
South Carolina’s self-proclaimed favorite son, Stephen Colbert, made his presidential campaign journey to the only state in which he’s competing and basked in the worship of sign-waving southern fans. The mayor of Columbia, SC gave Colbert a key to the city and announced the event on Sunday as ‘Stephen Colbert Day’.
Colbert made his preliminary announcement to run for the presidency on Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show, though the official announcement occurred a few minutes later on Colbert’s title show. Colbert intends to run as a Democrat and a Republican in the state of South Carolina, which could potentially cause a problem for the only other presidential candidate from the state: Democrat John Edwards.
