Ratings: American Idol Drops to Number Two
For the first time in show history, American Idol is getting beat in the ratings war by a rival reality TV series. On Monday, March 29, approximately 23 million viewers watched Dancing With the Stars. That number barely edged out the singing contest, which drew a paltry 22 million for Tuesday’s performance round.
The two shows don’t appeal to exactly the same demographic, which is why advertisements on Idol cost three times more than those on DWTS (roughly, according to Vote For the Worst calculations, Idol earns a cool $28 million per episode), but Dancing‘s sudden dominance could shake a few things up.
Is Idol a sinking ship? Or this only a minor blip in an otherwise perfect season? Stay up to date on all the news, spoilers and gossip - check out all our American Idol 9 posts.
