Katherine Heigl: I Left Grey’s for Family, not Film

Katherine Heigl on Entertainment Weekly cover

Although many people assumed (like I still do) that Katherine Heigl chose to leave Grey’s Anatomy for the big screen, the actress says that simply isn’t true.

In the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, Heigl claims that her early exit from the show - she cut her contract 18 months short - was prompted by the arrival of her adopted daughter, Naleigh. “I started a family and it changed everything for me,” Katherine stated. “It changed my desire to work full-time.”

While I can fully appreciate her desire to spend more time with family, her reasoning doesn’t exactly explain why she openly bashed her program before her daughter even came into the picture. Nor does it explain why she couldn’t even finish out the season and film the five additional episodes she was scheduled to be in. Former

Fans will now have to accept that January 21 was simply Izzie Steven’s final date on the show.

So what does the 31-year-old have to say to those who are confused by her abrupt exit? “I know I’m disappointing the fans,” she says. “I just had to make a choice. I hope I made the right one.”

Well, Katherine - if the trailer for your new film Killers is any indication of your future, I think you made an excellent choice.
