Dancing With The Stars: Week 5

DWTS

It was Latin night on this week, and as Tom Bergeron joked—there was very little fabric to be seen.  Tonight the competitors had to perform either a sizzling Samba or a romantic Rumba.  Read on to see how they fared:

MARIE OSMOND (partner Jonathan Roberts)
(Dance: Samba/ Song: ‘Crickets Sing for Anamaria’)
She looks like Charo in her short blue dress tonight (and that’s not a good thing).  She’s also dancing very tentatively and looking weirdly off.  NOTE:  Anticipating Marie’s fall (read here for the details), I never really heard what Len said (though he never really got to finish before the collapse anyway).  Score: 7/7/7 (21)

JANE SEYMOUR (partner Tony Dovolani)
(Dance: Rumba/ Song: ‘Breathe Again’)
It’s amazing how she can go from classy to sexy in just one week.  And what a hot, red dress!  Bruno complimented her lovely lines and shape.  He even said she even looked like Edyta at times.  Carrie Ann said Jane had a problem spotting her turns.  Len said she brought romance and class to the floor.  Score: 8/9/9 (26)

MARK CUBAN (partner Kym Johnson)
(Dance: Samba/ Song: ‘I Dream of Jeannie’ theme)
What great Halloween costumes!  Kym makes the perfect Jeannie…and Mark looks great in his spectacles.  Unfortunately, I’m not sure if its the glasses or simply Cuban’s lack of skill that’s making him look stiff.  Regardless, he looks like he’s having a great time with the comedic bit.  Although she admitted the technique was lacking, Carrie Ann thought the performance was entertaining and lively.  Len said Mark really needed help turning his feet out.  Bruno thought it was his most entertaining dance to date.  Score: 7/7/7 (21)

SABRINA BRYAN (partner Mark Ballas)
(Dance: Rumba/ Song: ‘Me and Mrs. Jones’)
I’m not really liking her tattered look tonight—and is it just me, or does she seem too ‘young’ for this song? Nevertheless, she just exudes confidence.  Len said there were a few over the top poses and gestures in her dance.  Bruno thought it was a totally grown-up, womanly performance.  Carrie Ann said this was her most gentle performance, though she did think Sabrina was hitting the edges of her turns a little hard.  Score: 9/9/10 (28)

JENNIE GARTH (partner Derek Hough)
(Dance: Samba/ Song: ‘Cosmic Girl’)
I really love her flouncy, yellow dress!  I’m not entirely sure what the problem is—but she’s looking a little bit awkward tonight.  And her booty shakin’ definitely needs a bit more work.  Bruno said her performance stalled a bit tonight.  Carrie Ann liked that Jennie brought something new to the table.  Len thought it was well done.  Score: 8/9/8 (25)

HELIO CASTRONEVES (partner Julianne Hough)
(Dance: Rumba/ Song: ‘Apologize’)
That entrance is setting is up for a real sexy performance.  The black outfits look great, but I really wish they could have done without the emasculating turtleneck look.  Although borderline cheesy, Helio is really getting into it tonight with his strong facial expressions.  Carrie Ann said Helio was so focused on his performance that the chemistry suffered for it.  Len said that he has seen ‘more romance at the dentist’; he thought Helio’s dancing was too mechanical.  Bruno said Helio looked like he was in pain.  Score: 8/7/8 (23)

MELANIE BROWN (partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy)
(Dance: Samba/ Song: ‘Spice Up Your Life’)
I’m just not feeling it tonight.  The performance looks fine—but it also looks like she’s just getting through it.  She stayed so long in that split, I wasn’t sure Maksim wanted her to get back up.  And why did they waste so much time getting back up on the stage?  Len said it was fruity, sweet and delicious.  Bruno thought it was full of excitement.  Carrie Ann said it was her favorite dance of Melanie’s this season.  Score: 10/9/10 (29)

CAMERON MATHISON (partner Edyta Sliwinska)
(Dance: Rumba/ Song: ‘I’ve Got To See You Again’)
Okay, that was probably the most suggestive open I’ve ever seen.  Thankfully they replaced Cameron’s Superman tee with a crisp white shirt tonight—he looks great.  I’m thoroughly impressed with him today; his improvement is evident..  Bruno said the dance was filled with incredible passion.  Carrie Ann thought their chemistry was truly hot and authentic.  Len said Cameron’s performances have really picked up in the last two weeks.  Score: 8/9/9 (26)
