Beauty And The Geek: ‘Meet The Parents’

Beauty and the Geek finale ... or is it?It’s all come down to this folks - after weeks of beauty on beauty and geek on geek action, it is finally time to crown this season’s winner of The CW’s social experiment, Beauty and the Geek. Our two final teams are the unlikely lovables, Jasmine and Dave, and this season’s big “twist”, the male beauty and girl geek team of Sam and Nicole. Last week we said goodbye to the self-destructive team of Will and Jenn, making way for a very agreeable final showdown. What we have been promised tonight, however, is that the game will “evolve” again, and the winner will be chosen in a way that we never expected.

Join me after the jump to find out who are the new Beauty and the Geek $250,000 champions.

The episode starts out on the evening of the final elimination. All dressed up, the teams enter the elimination room. Host Mike Richards discusses both teams’ unlikely appearances in the final challenge. In a sense, both teams were the biggest underdogs in the game. We find out that this season will not end with a winner being crowned in the elimination room.

We then flash back to three days prior.

Mike gathers the teams in the study and reveals that the beauties and geeks will be taking their respective partners to their hometown to meet their friends and family and see how the other half lives. It’s all part of seeing how much each player has changed. Both teams pack their bags and discuss who or what they may see in their hometown. Sam helps Nicole pick an outfit - she doesn’t pack very much else. Dave and Jasmine also discuss what he’ll wear when he meets her family.

Two days prior to elimination.

First stop: Boston, MA - Dave’s hometown. Dave takes Jasmine to meet his friends and family. Jasmine asks his friends about his social life and realizes that Dave is a rather social guy. He then reveals that he has a surprise for Jasmine - LARPing. Jasmine even picks herself a character - a queen named Evergreen. The whole group plays a game in which Dave and Jasmine fight a group of evil knights in search for a magic wand. Dave is quickly killed and Jasmine must fend for herself. She eventually revives Dave and they win the game. Jasmine was a really good sport about it. Dave looks forward to meeting Jasmine’s family and suspects elimination may involve a quiz about the things that they do.

Next stop: Davis, CA - Sam’s hometown. The first place Sam takes Nicole is the gym. They do a quick workout with Sam teaching Nicole how to use the different equipment. Then he takes Nicole to a bar called The Graduate to meet Sam’s brother a.k.a. “Tequila Joe.” Sam’s parents actually met at this bar, which is why it means so much to him. Next, Nicole meets Sam’s best friends who participate in a tequila tasting. Sam and his best friend Adrian want to show Nicole their dance moves called “The Matrix.” Nicole realizes that Sam is actually a very down to earth guy and not, as she called him, “Metro Man.” Sam’s brother looks nothing like him, and despite the fact that his friends look like your typical “frat boys,” they were very nice to Nicole.

One day before elimination.

Stop three: Boston, MA - Nicole’s hometown. Nicole takes Sam to her school because it is a very big part of her life. She studies music and decides to perform a opera-like song on stage for Sam. She actually had a very nice voice and Sam discussed how nice it was that she was comfortable enough with him to perform that song up on stage. Nicole introduces Sam to her roommates. He realizes that they are also pretty geeky. Nicole’s roommates notice subtle changes in her, such as her and Sam’s matching bracelets. Nicole talks about the fact that she doesn’t accessorize much. Sam talks about Nicole’s boy problems with her roommates. He appreciated the trip and really got to see her happy-go-lucky side.

Last stop: Columbus, OH - Jasmine’s hometown. They started by looking at baby and toddler pictures of Jasmine. Dave says that it really helped him learn more about her and her family. He realizes just how different Jasmine and her sister are from each other and marvels over how close they are despite that. Next, Jasmine went to see the kids that she babysits for. In case you have forgotten, Jasmine is a babysitter. They all play on the trampoline, where Dave gets a little overzealous and attempts a flip that lands him right on top of his head. Dave seems to get along with the kids, discussing his roleplaying and love for foam swords. He also asks the kids about Jasmine’s babysitting skills and asks if she is any good. They say yes. He asks if she lets them get away with a lot of things. They say no. Somehow I doubt it.

Back to L.A. Day of elimination.

The teams wake up and enjoy the huge mansion all to themselves. The teams reflect on their journeys. Dave and Jasmine look back on the fact that he didn’t want to be paired with her, as well as the fact that they were once called out for being a team that wasn’t growing.  Dave questions the criteria on which the winner will be chosen (although he doesn’t know that there will be no elimination room) and figures that if it is based on who has changed the most that he and Jasmine stand a good chance.

Sam and Nicole think back on their time here as well. They also seem to think that the elimination could be either a quiz on each other or a culmination of all the quizzes. Sam tests Nicole on his ex-girlfriends. Sam realizes that this experience has revolutionized his way of learning and reminisces on Nicole’s many changes throughout the game. In the end, both teams get dressed up and get together to have a big special “last meal” in the dining room. They are finally having that double date - though not exactly as Dave imagined it.

Dave and Jasmine have a moment out on the deck before elimination in which Dave gives Jasmine a Chinese happiness bracelet that his mom had gotten for him when she visited China a few months prior. He says that while money isn’t everything, happiness is. Jasmine says that no matter what happens tonight, she’s got her lucky charm, so she’s set.

Elimination time.

Mike announces that for the first time in Beauty and the Geek history, the winner will be decided by … America? What?? So does that mean that the show doesn’t end tonight? Each team is given the chance to come up with a speech that they will each give to America to plead their case. Why do they deserve to win? How have they changed? Etc. Dave and Jasmine really struggle over what to say, and she decides that it will be best for them to just speak from the heart and be light about it. Dave is more serious. Sam is similar in his thinking - he wants to just sort of wing it, while Nicole is more contemplative.

Sam and Nicole begin with their speech.  Watching these two talk to the camera is kind of awkward. Their speech is pretty much what you’d expect. “We’ve changed, blah, blah, blah.” Dave and Jasmine are up next. Their speech was honestly not quite as good as Sam and Nicole’s. Dave said very little and spoke in little Chinese proverb type quips. Jasmine did most of the talking, which was just so-so.

So … I guess this isn’t over. Vote up until Friday at noon at www.cwtv.com. Honestly, I’m kind of surprised. I really expected to be typing a winner at the bottom of this post. Next week, all ten teams will be gathered together once again and a winner will finally (hopefully) be revealed. Until then … stay tuned!
