American Idol Band Sues Show
The American Federation of Musicians filed a lawsuit on Friday against American Idol Productions. The paperwork says that Idol never obtained official permission from the union for “selling digitally-encoded audio files containing” songs played by the Idol band.
The musicians were never included in any monies or decisions regarding ringtones and song files sold by the show, which the legal paperwork claims violates the union agreement. The suits asks for $500,000 for damages and monetary compensation for the musicians’ pension fund.
That’s a sum which American Idol could easily afford.
