Dancing with the Stars 7: The Winner

Dancing with the Stars' Final 3

On yesterday’s episode of Dancing with the Stars, the Top Three contenders were given two more chances to hit the floor. In addition to a “Samba Smackdown” (another group performance), the pairs finally got a crack at the highly-anticipated Freestyle numbers.

By night’s end:

  • Last week’s leader, Lance Bass, earned a 26 for his Samba (an improvement from his earlier 24) and a 27 in the Freestyle round.  TOTAL: 53
  • scored a 25 for his Samba (a style he once got a 22 for) and a 28 in the Freestyle portion. TOTAL: 53
  • Brooke Burke achieved perfection for the Freestyle and a near-perfection (28) for her Samba. TOTAL: 58

Unfortunately for Brooke, the contest didn’t end there. On tonight’s results show, the contenders were forced to crank out one more routine (a resurrected favorite) for another set of scores. Could this be the break the tied gentlemen needed?

  • Warren and Kym brought back their Hustle from Week 5. Since they only received a 25 for it the first time, there was still room for improvement. The 27 they earned tonight made their two-day total 80 out of 90.
  • Lance and Lacey chose to dust off their Jitterbug from Week 9. (That was the style they saw a 29 for). Unfortunately, they gambled with a near-perfect performance and wound up slipping a notch (28). Their two-day total: 81 out of 90.
  • Brooke and Derek then waltzed in with a reprisal of their Viennese Waltz. Back in Week 3, the partners scored a 28 for that style. Tonight, the judges - including a teary Carrie Ann Inaba - awarded Burke three 10’s. The perfect score pushed their two-day total to 88 out of 90.

Despite a 1-point lead over Sapp after their final performances, was the first one eliminated from the competition tonight. Although he had made great strides in the past few weeks the former boybander’s overall average (24.27) was still slightly behind the football player’s number (24.67).

But when it was said and done, neither male had what it took to take down the mother of four. Although she wasn’t technically the most charismatic of the three, ‘s talent could never be matched. After winning 8 out of 10 weeks of competition, the 37-year-old was finally handed the cheesy mirror ball trophy.
