Antti NiemiThe Chicago Blackhawks have made their decision. Rookie-turned sophomore goaltender Antti Niemi will not return to Chicago and veteran Marty Turco will don the red and black jersey for the defending Stanley Cup champions in the upcoming 2010-11 season. The Hawks turned down Niemi’s $2.75 million salary that was awarded by an arbitrator. The Hawks tried to find a way to justify the money, but after an $826,875 rookie contract, it was too difficult to fit the dramatic price tag increase under the salary cap.

Manny sticking around for years to come

Manny RamirezManny Ramirez has come out and said that this will be his last year in a Dodger uniform. He’ll play as much as he’s asked to play, but once his contract expires, he’ll either look for a DH role with an American League team or even consider retirement. After teams failed to show significant interest prior to 2009, Manny signed a deal with Los Angeles that could have seen him test free agency again for this year, but he opted to stay in California, which was probably in his best interests.
