Tim Thomas set for record-breaking season in Boston net

Tim ThomasTim Thomas is a perfect 5-0 for the Boston Bruins this year. Despite that, his team sits in sixth place in the Eastern Conference. The problem the Bruins have at this point is Thomas’s backup, Tuukka Rask who is like a yang to Thomas’s yin. Rask is 0-2. Combined, the two goalies have given the Bruins 10 points in seven games. Talk to anyone on the Bruins and they’ll probably tell you that’s not good enough.

Ryan MillerA goalie can definitely steal a series, but can a goalie steal a Stanley Cup? That’s the question being asked about Sabres goalie Ryan Miller. Facing the Boston Bruins in the first round of the 2010 NHL Playoffs, Buffalo will be putting a lot of weight on their Olympic goaltender in their first playoff appearance in three years. But Miller isn’t looking at the past. His full attention is on the series against Boston, and he looked pretty good in his first game.

Tuukka RaskThe rookies in the NHL are making a huge impression on the fans nationwide. Everybody knows what John Tavares is doing for the Islanders as well as Niclas Bergfors in New Jersey, but there are two freshman goaltenders making a splash as well – Washington’s Semyon Varlamov and Boston’s Tuukka Rask. Both were first-round draft picks; Rask in 2005 and Varlamov in 2006, and both are dominating shooters across the league.

Bruins up-and-down weekend sets pace for season

Tuukka RaskThe Boston Bruins really had their work cut out for them this weekend. With a pair of games against division rivals, the Bruins were put to a test unlike any they’ve faced this season, and the two games were polar opposites of each other. Friday’s contest against the Montreal Canadiens, who were celebrating their 100-year anniversary, was a long, tough night for Boston, who lost 5-1. Then, after flying home well after midnight for Saturday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Bruins bounced back about as high as possible, crushing Toronto 7-2.
