What is Jason Bartlett to do? After an awful 2010 season, the shortstop finds himself awaiting arbitration with Tampa Bay and will probably end up earning a little more than the $4 million he made last season, but he may not wear a Rays uniform while he collects his paychecks next season. More than a handful of teams have expressed interest in attaining Bartlett’s services, but it will depend on another shortstop’s decision that will determine actual trade partners with Tampa Bay.

It’s hard to imagine that Derek Jeter began his MLB career 15 years ago. He’s become one of the most recognizable players in the game and will be for years, perhaps decades to come. Now, he finds himself in a position to negotiate for a new contract after finishing a 10-year, $189M deal. Of course, he’ll be dealing with his hometown New York Yankees, but for the first time in his career, his actual worth may fall below what his demands will be.

Rollins back from injury, may make All-Star lineup

Are the Philadelphia Phillies starting to come back around? With a 7-3 record in their last 10 games, the injury-plagued Phillies share the best record with the Mets for the last week and a half. The team also got a shot in the arm when former All-Star Jimmy Rollins rejoined the team on Tuesday in advance of their three-game sweep against the Cleveland Indians. Rollins is a welcome offensive and defensive improvement at shortstop that the Phillies have been lacking this season.

Guzman competing for playing time

Washington Nationals shortstop Cristian Guzman looks healthy and ready to play ball. The triples-machine has been seeing regular playing as of late after a slow start to his spring and is doing well. He is recovering from right shoulder surgery to repair and appears to be doing well. He’s improving his velocity on his throws and is looking to get back into the hunt to be the Nationals’ starting shortstop when Opening Day comes around.
