King Felix Hernandez finally gets his win with AL Cy Young

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB,

Felix HernandezIt seems like the baseball writers may finally be coming around. They selected Felix Hernandez as the 2010 American League Cy Young Award winner, and for the second year in a row, they’ve opted to overlook win-loss record and give the top pitcher’s award to a pitcher who truly deserves it. With a 13-12 record, Hernandez looks like one of the most average pitchers in the game, but when you look deeper, you’ll find that his record is a gross misrepresentation of what he did.

Zack GreinkeThe American League Cy Young Award winner was announced recently, and while an untraditional, yet unsurprising decision, Zack Greinke took home the hardware to cap off what has been an incredible season, taking home 25 out of 28 first-place votes. Greinke just completed his sixth big-league season – all with the Kansas City Royals – but made a name for himself in 2009. To go along with his Cy Young, he also made the AL All-Star Squad as more than just a pity-pick, led the league in ERA, and was also the players’ choice for Pitcher of the Year. Greinke topped the list, followed by the Seattle Mariners’ Felix Hernandez, Detroit Tigers’ Justin Verlander, and New York Yankees’ CC Sabathia.

Posted by Milo Taibi Categories: Athletes, MLB, News,

Description
On Tuesday night Felix Hernandez stole the show from the attractions of Ichiro Suzuki and Daisuke “Dice K” Matsuzaka. Although the media hype was surrounding Ichiro facing Matsuzaka, Hernandez was quietly shutting down the Boston Red Sox offense. He went all nine innings, and gave up just one hit while striking out six.  Matsuzaka wasn’t nearly as impressive, throwing seven innings, giving up eight hits and three earned runs while striking out four and giving up one walk.
