Garciaparra signs with Red Sox; retires

Nomar Garciaparra ended his MLB career where it began; with the Boston Red Sox. As one of the most beloved Sox in recent history, his desire to return to Boston to finish his career was granted earlier today when he signed a one-day minor league contract with the Red Sox and then announced his retirement from baseball as a member of the team he has always missed. He will transition to the broadcast booth as a member of the EPSN “Baseball Tonight” crew as well as an occasional game analyst.

Have you ever watched a game on television and seen the crowd in the background rise from their seats, throw their hands above their heads and sit back down? Of course you have. They’re doing “the wave”, an activity performed by thousands on a nightly basis that has been going on for decades. But the argument about who started the sports tradition has been raging for just as long and nobody is quite sure who should be given credit where it’s due.

Voting for the All-Star Games
We’re nearing that point of the year where people begin to think about the All-Star games and the Pro Bowl. Millions of fans worldwide are sending in their votes for who they would like to see in the spotlight. It is only because of the 2010 Winter Olympics that the NHL is not having an All-Star game this season, but their selection process is similar to the other major sports. The fan-selection process is highly contested by many who argue that the fans lack the proper dedication to vote for the “true” stars in sports. But which fans are right?
