Two years ago, the league adopted the affectionately-named “Sean Avery” rule the day after Avery was seen blatantly obstructing Devils goalie Martin Brodeur without any other concern for on-ice action. However, the league called it an “interpretation” of an existing rule. That in itself is the NHL’s biggest problem. Many rules are open to interpretation.

Ron WilsonAre there any coaches liked less than Ron Wilson? His comments about Team Canada after their Olympic victory against his American squad have put him under the spotlight and fans are calling for his head. Now back as the head honcho of the last-place team in the Eastern Conference, Wilson is once again just the most recent of a string of Leaf coaches who are going through rough times. It is only because of the 2010 Winter Olympics that the NHL is not having an All-Star game this season, but their selection process is similar to the other major sports. NL Gold Gloves a golden joke

Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, Editorial, MLB,

Ryan ZimmermanThe National League handed out their Gold Glove Awards, and as usual, there was a sense of comic relief because of some of the winners – specifically at third base. Ryan Zimmerman of the Washington Nationals took home his first Gold Glove, perhaps solely because the Nats needed anything with which to say 2009 was successful. He finished ahead of a much more deserving candidate from San Diego in Kevin Kouzmanoff. The suspicion is that Gold Glove winners – a defensive honor – are often chosen based on offensive statistics. A comparison between the two NL third basemen gives credit to that theory.
