Description
Former Colorado Rockies pitcher Jason Jennings signed with the Texas Rangers today. The deal is worth 4 million dollars, and is for the 2008 season. Jennings was 2-9 with a 6.45 ERA in 19 games for the Houston Astros last season. Jennings will be remembered as an Astro for giving up 11 runs in the first inning of a game against the San Diego Padres.

“Hopefully we’ll have an announcement tomorrow,” general manager Jon Daniels said Wednesday.

Jennings was the 2002 Rookie of the Year award winner. In his Major League debut on August 23, 2001, Jennings hit a home run and pitched a 5 hit shutout against the New York Mets. Once a heralded prospect, Jennings’ stock has slipped in recent years compiling ERA’s over 5 in 3 of his last 4 seasons.
