Current Boston Celtic and Brooklyn native Sebastion Telfair was arrested Friday for illegal possession of a loaded gun. Telfair, 21, was pulled over driving his SUV for speeding on a Yonkers road, going 77 miles per hour in a 45 mile an hour zone. The police officer found a loaded handgun underneath his seat.

Telfair did not have a driver’s license, so his car was impounded and searched, leading to the police officer finding the loaded handgun. There was no sign of improper conduct shown from Telfair though, according to police spokespeople. Celtics director of basketball operations Danny Ainge had no comment on the arrest. The Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck’s commented though: “The players on the Celtics have been explicitly warned, this year, to obey the team and league gun prohibition as well as state laws. We take this very seriously, and will act accordingly once the facts have been determined, we began the building process towards next year yesterday, and the last thing we want or will tolerate is a distraction along the way.”

This probably will not harm Telfair in the long run of his career, although he has had problems with guns before, after a handgun was found in his pillow on his team’s airplane. He was fined and suspended for two games. Telfair is so young and so talented, if he can keep out of trouble he can become a really special player. It’s probably best for him to not be in possesion of a gun in public for the future though. He doesn’t want to be given the boot from the Celtics as he was from the Portland Trail Blazers.
