Windows 8.1 preview

Microsoft has prepared a video first-look at Windows 8.1, the upcoming update to its major desktop operating system, due out later this year. Using a Surface Pro to demo the software, Jensen Harris of the Windows User Experience team walks us through some of the improvements, including the new cloud-powered lockscreen, new Start screen tile sizes, app sorting, Start screen arranging, new personalization options, motion accents for wallpapers, and more. Two pretty big items not touched upon are the return of the Start button, and that Outlook 2013 is coming to Windows RT 8.1. Check out the full video after the break to see what awaits you in Windows 8.1, the preview of which will be available on June 26.

Apple's new fifth-generation 16GB iPod touch (which doesn't include a rear camera) was announced yesterday, and is starting to show up at Apple retail stores today. Ben Pasternak over in Australia was one of the first to get his hands on one of the new iOS devices, and put together a short video showing off the two-toned iPod touch. As a refresher, the new 16GB touch costs $229, and replaces the discontinued fourth-generation iPod touch. You can get the new iPod touch now, and check out the video after the break.

Purported iPad 5 case leak points to redesign with reduced bezel size [Video]

Leaked iPad 5 case

The folks over at Tinhte.ven, who have a fairly good track record with Apple leaks, have managed to get their hands on some cases that are said to be designed for the expected iPad 5. This is becoming the norm, as we speculate that case makers pay leakers for design schematics in order to get a leg up when the Apple product goes on sale.

Rumors are pointing to a redesigned iPad 5 that has slimmer and lighter characteristics and reduced bezels, similar to those found on the iPad mini. If you're looking into buying a new iPad, we suggest waiting a bit longer if you want the latest and greatest--our guess is we will see the new models in about 3 months. Check out the video after the break.

Risky Settlers Knights and Allies of the Lords of Dominion of Earth Pandemic Edition

One can argue that the resurgence of tabletop gaming and board games can be attributed in large part to Kickstarter. We've backed a few games, but there's one we can't wait to play above all others: Risky Settlers Knights and Allies of the Lords of Dominion of Earth: Pandemic Edition. Why? Check out the video after the break to see for yourself.

Princess Zelda Draw My Life

Princess Zelda is getting in on all that YouTube "Draw My Life" action, putting what possibly may be the most unique life yet to pen and paper. For now, enjoy Zelda's life in the video after the break.

Watch this: The mythical Apple TV set conceptualized [Video]

AppleTV conceptualized

It's becoming customary within the Apple community to conceptualize ideas of future Apple products and software. In this case, Sam Beckett conceptualizes what the mythical Apple TV set, or iTV, display may look like and how it might behave. Interactions, mostly done by way of an iOS device, in this case are done with an iPad mini.  This, of course, is opposed to using the often confusing button-riddled TV remote. Interacting and navigating is user-friendly and intuitive while using DVR functions, swiping between channels using gestures, using Siri and Genius content recommendations, etc. In addition, apps are served up as channels, and the user would have the ability to tie into their cable provider of choice if they aren't ready to cut the cord. I don't know about you, but we're digging this much. Watch the video after the snappy break.

Skeletor

If you were a child of the '80s, you probably remember He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon that was on television every weekday afternoon. He-Man would do his best to rid Eternia of Skeletor. I remember going to Macy's in NYC as a four-year-old and getting to "meet" a life-sized, robotic He-Man that was signing autographs. There was no Skeletor equivalent though, until now. The life-sized Skeletor replica is molded and sculpted based on the dimensions of the action figure. Check out the video after the break for more on the construction of Skeletor.

Send Money in Gmail with Google Wallet

Google is making the practice of sending money to friends as easy as attaching a document to an email. Using Gmail, you'll be able to attach cash money to your emails using your Google Wallet account, for free. The nice thing is that you don't have to have funds on your account to do this--you can just have a bank account attached to your Wallet account. Recipients of your paper won't need to have a Gmail account, which is one more thing you don't need to worry about, and anyone you send money to can return it to you as well. Google is rolling out the feature now to Gmail users over the age of 18. Check out a video that explains it all, after the break.

Ricky Gervais Rarely Watched American Version of ‘The Office’

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, ABC, The Office, Features,

Ricky GervaisRicky Gervais isn't emotionally attached to the American version of The Office.

The 51-year-old British comedian - who created the original BBC series - admits he has only watched the NBC version, starring Steve Carell, a few times and is only a fan because it has made him more money than any of his other TV shows. "I don't think I've seen much of it. It wasn't my baby. It was my rights, so I cashed the checks. I think it was good, but I didn't have the same emotional attachment to it. I [have made] more [money] than anything else probably I've ever done. It's the gift that keeps on giving, syndication," he told the June issue of GQ magazine.

Ricky insists he is not worried about the lukewarm response his new show Derek has received from his fans: "I don't worry about it at all. I think I'm pretty self-aware. I think I know what I'm doing. You know when you've been a prat, you know when you're being a prat, you know when something sounds pretentious. They mean they don't like Derek as much as Extras? Science as much as Animals [two of his stand-up specials]? They mean they don't like me. That's what they mean. So they're trying to justify their dislike in a critical response."
