Betsey Johnson Wants TV Diffusion Line

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Fashion Designers, News, Rumors, Sales, Women,
As rumors continue to circulate around Betsey Johnson’s desire for a diffusion line, the playful designer speaks out on her ideal shopping platform: television.
“I want to do television, like QVC or HSN. That’s in talks. I let the talkers do the talk. I jump in at the end,” Johnson revealed, when quizzed on the hopefully-upcoming line.
If she had to pick between the two networks?
“I like QVC because I’ve done it for breast cancer, T-shirts and stuff over the years. And my dentist is a big QVC-er. And Stan Herman from the CFDA, he does QVC. And my lingerie company does QVC. It just seems more QVC-y to me, in terms of my collaborations with companies.”
While she may be pretty young at heart (and in her clothes), Johnson admits that she has a slight fear of new technologies.

LG working on 15-inch OLED HDTV

Posted by Mark Rollins Categories: Displays, HDTV,

I first saw Sony’s 11-inch OLED XEL-1 at CES almost two years ago. I couldn’t see myself paying so much ($2500) for such a tiny screen, even though it had, at the time, the best picture that I had ever seen for something only millimeters thin.
It would appear that LG is readying their own OLED HDTV, this one being a 15-incher. It will only be on sale in Korea, sometime in November. As of now, there are no pricing details, so just take solace in the fact that it’ll fall into the OMGExpensive category.

DTV Transition Makes Man Shoot TV

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: HDTV,
We thought it most amusing when we learned that Elvis shot his TV when he would see Robert Goulet, but we guess this man took that kind of anger a bit too far. A man in Joplin, Mo. got so irritated at the DTV transition that when he lost his cable and couldn’t get the converter to work, he shot his television. Apparently, he had been drinking at the time, still that was an extreme reaction. He was charged with unlawful use of a firearm.

Q&A: Ryan Alexander-Tanner on the Xeric, Television and William Ayers

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Interviews,
RYAN ALEXANDER-TANNER is a Xeric Award winner, indie cartoonist, and self-publisher (Television). Now one of his next projects is sure to set tongues wagging. It’s a graphic novel in collaboration with William Ayers called To Teach: The Graphic Memoir and scheduled to be published in 2010 by Teachers College Press.
TOM: Let’s talk about your Xeric Grant first. What did you have to submit to get it?
RYAN: In order to get one you have to submit a finished - or at least close to finished - comic book. I had everything done except the cover when I submitted Television #1. You also have to get a really solid budget proposal together, which a lot of people understandably have a hard time with. I got some help from my great friend Alex Cahill - an earlier recipient of the Xeric - and Gary Grinde over at Morgan Printing - who is a friend to indie comics artists across the nation - and it really wasn’t too bad. That’s one of the great things about indie comics; it really is a small world so it’s pretty easy to reach out to people if you need some help. I would recommend to anyone who was applying for one to contact previous recipients for some sage advice.
