Jim HughsonWe all have those voices in our heads that we associate with sports broadcasts. Whether it’s the voice of a local sports team, or a national caller who goes where they’re needed. Jim Hughson, voice of the Vancouver Canucks is one of the latter. Born in Fort St. John, British Columbia in 1956, Hughson got into broadcasting early. He was a disc jockey and news reporter for his hometown CKNL Radio. Hughson currently lives in White Rock, BC with his wife Denise and two children, Matt and Jennifer.

Fashion Designer Alexa Chung

Alexa ChungFormer model-turned-entertainer Alexa Chung is returning to her humble beginnings, collaborating with clothing store J. Crew.

The British TV presenter will be working with the chain retailers to create her own fashion range, which will be inspired by her personal style. Alexa, 26, said, “I was being offered so many collaborations for a long time, but I held off. I thought it was quite a ‘sellout’ thing to do.”

The brand’s chairman Millard Drexler, however, claimed Alexa would be more than just a spokesperson: “There is no grand scheme to this, and we still don’t want to hire a celebrity spokesperson. It’s just that Alexa is totally cool. It’s not the way she looks or dresses. It’s the way she is.”

The range will include dungaree dresses, high-waisted skinny jeans, polka dot tea dresses and oversized wool jackets, mimicking her own wardrobe. Alexa is no stranger to the fashion industry, having previously walked the catwalk for and modeled for DKNY and British chain New Look.

In 2009, Alexa was named the most stylish woman of the year by , beating French actress Audrey Tautou and Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker to the top spot.

Just connect the LG 47LH50 to your home network, and the content is right at your fingertips. The part, though, is the price. These typically sell for about $1500, but Amazon is selling it for $1,139.

Claire Danes Spills Workout Secrets

Claire Danes working outMe and Orson Welles actress Claire Danes only goes to the gym to watch TV.

Danes revealed her toned, slender physique is due to the hours spent catching up on her favorite TV shows while in the gym each day.

“I’ve become a bit of a gym person. I feel apologetic about it because it looks a little un-cool, but I like to have an appointment every day. Plus it’s the only time I watch TV.”

The 30-year-old star - who secretly married her Evening co-star Hugh Dancy in September - also admitted she stays in shape by dancing to Caribbean soul music.

“Some of my happiest moments have been dancing. But I’m not very hip. Right now, I’m really into Jamaican jams, Caribbean soul and stuff.”

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer Returns

Santa And RudolphI love the old Rankin-Bass holiday classics, but my favorite is Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer. It used to be appointment TV, but then along came DVD and the ability to watch it anytime.

Now that I have kids, we watch it pretty much year-round. In 2009 so far, I’ve racked up at least 20 viewings. And when you watch something that many times, you start to notice some things that escaped me when I would just see it once a year. Here’s my list:

Mrs. Claus: She’s a chubby chaser and an enabler. Santa finally gets his weight down during the off-season - which no doubt would help his cholesterol and blood pressure and help him live longer - and yet she can’t wait to start stuffing him again, upping the ante by reminding him that everyone loves a fat Santa, including her I’m guessing.

Santa Claus: First off, he’s a jerk. Rudolph is a super-achiever compared to the others in the Reindeer Games, and Santa’s too worried about the red nose thing. Since no one on Santa’s route will ever actually see Rudolph, this is really all about Santa’s issues.

Patrick McGoohan: The Prisoner of Comic Books

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials, Television,

The PrisonerPatrick McGoohan’s classic TV series, The Prisoner, is the definition of the word enigmatic. It was also an outrageous, surprising, and completely original show about identity, spies, surveillance, and more all built around a simple premise: what happens to a spy when he retires. In the case of The Prisoner, that spy, played by McGoohan, is drugged and taken to an island resort called The Village from which there’s no escape - though oh how he tries. He’s given a number (Number 6) instead of a name and he’s never quite sure who’s doing this to him: his former bosses or something more sinister. Cameras around the Orwellian Village monitor his every move as he tries to turn the tables on his captors in a giant game of spy chess. Each episode has more plot twists than a season of Lost, and while Number 6 doesn’t win, he never really loses either. McGoohan co-created the series, starred in it, wrote and directed some of the episodes. His fingerprints are all over it.

Produced in England from 1967-1968, The Prisoner ran for 17 episodes with a final episode that didn’t answer all the questions posed by the series, and good luck getting any from the temperamental McGoohan (he passed away earlier this year and took many of his secrets with him). There was no second season. No spin-off. No subsequent movie. But a lot of solid geek cred, including a couple of catchphrases for those in the know, like “I’m not a number! I’m a free man!” A very good overview of the series - with clips and more - can be found over at Palafo.

Legend Of The Seeker 2nd Season: Seek It Out!

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Reviews,

LegendBack in the go-go 1990s of television syndication, everybody and his international production company was making hour-long adventure series. My weekend afternoons were filled with two of the best, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess. They were fun, action-packed, never took themselves too seriously and both were thoroughly enjoyable. And they had two things in common: Sam Raimi (that’s right, the Evil Dead/Darkman/Spider-Man guy) and Robert Tapert.

But the market shifted and independent programming took a beating for a few years. Then last year, there was a surprise on my widescreen plasma: Legend of the Seeker. And it too had something in common with Hercules and Xena: Raimi and Tapert. They’d returned to New Zealand where their previous shows were filmed, and drew from the Wizard’s First Rule novels of fantasy author Terry Goodkind to craft another terrific action hour with edge-of-the-seat appeal and really nice FX. It fills that gap for me when BBC America isn’t showing Robin Hood.

Now it’s back for season 2, and the first new episode debuts this weekend (either November 7 or November 8, depending on your local listings). For me, it’s KTLA (Channel 5) at Sunday, 3pm. If you’re in NYC (which is where I always dream of being), it’s 4pm Saturday on WPIX. You can find out your own local times and station at the official LOTS website.

Gossip Girl Wardrobe Costs $19 Million

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, News, Rumors, Men, Women,

Gossip Girls Blake Lively and Leighton MeesterThe Gossip Girl wardrobe is worth an estimated $19 million.

The hit TV show, which follows a group of wealthy New York teenagers, is famed for its designer clothes, bags, jewelery, shoes and other accessories. Each episode of the series, which stars Leighton Meester and Blake Lively, features a string of exclusive outfits, which are stored in an impressive wardrobe spanning 1,500 sq ft and five floors.

Chace Crawford, who plays Nate Archibald on the show, said, “The girls disappear into that wardrobe for hours. They are like kids in a candy store! In fact, I always ask them not to schedule my fittings after Blake’s, because she always makes me late for my next scene. I tell them they have to get her enough Disneyland time.”

Costume designer Eric Daman has revealed it is a lengthy process trying to decide which pieces are featured on the show: “We average five to six looks per character—a total of 80 outfits per episode. And you have to go through 500 to get to that 80.”

Chace insists most of the wardrobe space is occupied by outfits for the leading female characters: “I have five pairs of shoes in a large box. They have clothes spread over five stories!”
