Samsung Forecasts the Demise of Blu-ray

Samsung believes that Blu-ray will only last another 5 years and then will be replaced by another format or type of technology such as OLED. Andy Griffiths, Director of Consumer Affairs told Pocket-lint, “We will launch the OLED technology when it’s at a price that will be appealing to the consumer, unfortunately that’s not yet.”
Oddly enough, he may be right. We found out recently that Sony is rumored to be lowering the price of its BDP-S350 this month to make it a $300.00 purchase.

Samsung has unveiled its L310W Camera, designed for those who like to do more than point and shoot. It features a 13.6MP lens, a .7-inch LCD and a 28mm wide-angle, 3.6x optical zoom lens. With built-in photo guide for their Perfect Portrait system, it will help new users become better when it comes to shooting or utilizing its functions of face and blink detection, beauty and smile shot, and different portraits. Touch Sight Camera for the Visually Impaired

What a unique idea. Designers Chueh Lee and team from Samsung, China came up with Touch Sight, a digital camera for the visually impaired. The cam records sound when the shutter button is pressed and can be used as a reference for managing the photos. The device has a lightweight Braille display sheet with a 3D image instead of an LCD. Once taken, the images can be down or uploaded for sharing. The team discovered that the forehead is the best place for this device to aim and stabilize. We can’t wait to see the results if the prototype becomes reality.

Samsung E200 Eco Cell Phone

Samsung took the opportunity of utilizing the Olympics to introduce its new E200 Eco Cell Phone. Instead of being made of petroleum-based polycarbonate plastic, this one is made of bio-plastics that is created out of corn. Even the box has been made of non-coated, recycled paper. The Eco will debut in September and is part of their environmentally friendly line that includes the W510, which is also made of bio-plastic, and the F268, a BFR/PVC free mobile phone.

Samsung SC-MX20 Camcorder

Samsung is about to make their entry into the YouTube camera category with their SC-MX20. The camcorder has a 680 pixel CCD sensor with a 720x480 res, an aspect ratio of both 4:3 and 16:9, a 2.7-inch LCD display, a Scheider 34x optical zoon, and a swivel grip. It also features noise reduction tech, 3 hours of battery life, and Samsung’s Advanced Image Stabilization technology. Available in black, red, white, or silver, look for the SC-MX20 in August for $279.99.

Samsung has unveiled its La Fleur T10 Special Edition MP3 player. Bluetooth 2.0 capable, the player is available in 5 colors. The 2-inch QVGA LCD touchscreen has a 320 x 240 res and supports WMV9, MPEG4, MP3 and WMA formats. It also features an FM radio/recorder, image/ text viewer, voice recorder, Samsung Media Studio, and DNSe 2.0 technology for enhanced sound. Samsung is making some strides with its slider DVB-H Mobile TV Phone. It features a 2.6-inch QVGA TFT screen with 262K colors, a 3 mp cam with power LED, a music player with library, an FM tuner, and Bang & Olufsen ICEPower tech for sound. With up to 5 hours of play, there is also an electronic service guide with TV channels and PIP, and Time-Shifting in case you are interrupted by a call. Unfortunately, the thin 16.7mm P960 will start out in Europe before it hits the States.

Armani LCD HDTV

Designer Giorgio Armani isn’t satisfied with a mere cell phone that features his name. He and Samsung presented his premium 120Hz full LCD HDTV at the Milan International Furniture Fair going on this week. Claiming that the inspiration came from his new 2008/09 Armani/Casa Home Furnishings Collection, the television comes in 46 and 52-inch models. Apparently his Brahms tea table was specifically designed to hold the TV. No price is available as yet, but we are still figuring out which came first, the TV or the table?
