Samsung Forecasts the Demise of Blu-ray

Blu-ray DiscSamsung believes that Blu-ray will only last another 5 years and then will be replaced by another format or type of technology such as OLED. Andy Griffiths, Director of Consumer Affairs told Pocket-lint, “We will launch the OLED technology when it’s at a price that will be appealing to the consumer, unfortunately that’s not yet.”

Oddly enough, he may be right. We found out recently that Sony is rumored to be lowering the price of its BDP-S350 this month to make it a $300.00 purchase.

Touch Sight Camera for the Visually Impaired

What a unique idea. Designers Chueh Lee and team from Samsung, China came up with Touch Sight, a digital camera for the visually impaired. The cam records sound when the shutter button is pressed and can be used as a reference for managing the photos. The device has a lightweight Braille display sheet with a 3D image instead of an LCD. Once taken, the images can be down or uploaded for sharing. The team discovered that the forehead is the best place for this device to aim and stabilize. We can’t wait to see the results if the prototype becomes reality.

Samsung E200 Eco Cell Phone

E200 EcoSamsung took the opportunity of utilizing the Olympics to introduce its new E200 Eco Cell Phone. Instead of being made of petroleum-based polycarbonate plastic, this one is made of bio-plastics that is created out of corn. Even the box has been made of non-coated, recycled paper. The Eco will debut in September and is part of their environmentally friendly line that includes the W510, which is also made of bio-plastic, and the F268, a BFR/PVC free mobile phone.

With up to 5 hours of play, there is also an electronic service guide with TV channels and PIP, and Time-Shifting in case you are interrupted by a call. Designer Giorgio Armani isn’t satisfied with a mere cell phone that features his name. He and Samsung presented his premium 120Hz full at the Milan International Furniture Fair going on this week. Claiming that the inspiration came from his new 2008/09 Armani/Casa Home Furnishings Collection, the television comes in 46 and 52-inch models. Apparently his Brahms tea table was specifically designed to hold the TV. No price is available as yet, but we are still figuring out which came first, the TV or the table?
