Newegg has got a pre-Black Friday 2009 sale that we just caught wind of. They are selling the Toshiba 32-inch 32AV502R LCD HDTV for the super-low price of just $329. The set is a 720p high definition display, 16x9 aspect ratio, with an 8ms response time. The offer is valid from now through December 19, while supplies last - and we are assuming that these are going to go quick at that price, as these make an excellent gift, or secondary/bedroom television. JVC LT-32WX50 LCD HDTV is a quarter-inch thick
Posted by Mark Rollins Categories: Displays, HDTV, Home Entertainment

You read the headline correctly, this new LCD from JVC is only a quarter inch thin at its thickest. The LT-32WX50 has edge-lit backlighting, a wide color gamut, two HMI inputs, VGA-style PC input, RS-232 port of custom installations, and a 4000:1 contrast ratio. It should be available in November for a price of about $3,000. If you ask us, that is fairly expensive for an edge-lit display, what with the lack of local dimming and what not.

Sony Bravia ZX5: LED-backlit, slim LCD HDTV
Posted by Mark Rollins Categories: Displays, HDTV, Wireless / WiFi

We know that Sony is busy prepping their 3D strategy, but in the meantime, they are still working on pumping out some awesome televisions with the ZX5 series of Bravia LCD televisions. The Sony Bravia ZX5 sports edge-mounted LED backlighting (no local-dimming Triluminous tech here - boo), 240Hz Motion Flow, a wireless HD media receiver, and a 16.6-mm frame. The set will hit stores in Japan in November, and I’m sure we’ll hear about the US launch at CEDIA.

NEC MultiSync EA109M standard-aspect LCD monitors
Posted by Mark Rollins Categories: Displays

NEC looks to be trying to squeeze every last penny out of the non-16:9 monitor marketplace with the MultiSync EA109M. It has 1280 x 1024 resolution, five millisecond response time, 4-way ergonomic stand, 900:1 contrast ratio, and black bezel finish. We know, completely underwhelming. What’s worse, though, is they are pricing it at $259, ensuring that no one but out-of-date government agencies and schools will be purchasing them.

BenQ Goes Green with LED-backlit V2400 and V220 Eco
Posted by Mark Rollins Categories: Design, Displays, Peripherals

It’s good to know that major electronics makers have realized that it makes more sense to “go green” than to avoid it. BenQ, for example, has recently created two new V Series monitors that are meant to be eco-friendly. The 24-inch V2400 Eco and 21.5-inch V2200 Eco have dynamic contrast ratios of 5,000,000:1, and are LED-backlit 1080p panels. The monitors are made from 28 percent recycled plastic. They also reduce power by 30 percent in eco mode, and 36 percent overall. These displays are available in China in a week, but we expect them to arrive stateside soon enough.

Unibody MacBook Pro 15-inch finally gets matte display option
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Design, PC / Laptop

When Apple launched the unibody MacBook Pros, one of the loudest cries we heard from the Mac community was in relation to the loss of the matte display option. You see, while Apple touted colors that “pop” a bit more off of the glossy screen, those of us who like to be, you know, mobile with our notebook computers, cried foul. The problem with a glossy-only option (or lack of option, really) is that if you are using your MacBook Pro in the sun, you essentially have a screen that can double as a mirror.
Well, Apple has heard those cries, and has finally brought a matte screen option to the 15-inch MacBook Pro, something that the 17-inch unibody version has had since the get-go. It’ll cost you an extra $50 for the privilege, and you also lose the black “borderless” infinity bezel around the screen, and instead get a silver bezel like previous versions of the MacBook Pro.

Dell’s E2010H, E2210H, and ST2310 LCD Displays
Posted by Mark Rollins Categories: Displays, HDTV, PC / Laptop, Peripherals

Dell is no stranger to the display business, which may explain why they have launched three new models, seemingly without letting anyone know about them. The 22-inch E2210H and 20-inch E2010H are $199 and $139, respectfully. The E2210H has a full HD resolution, while the E2010H sports 1600 x 900 pixels. The other is the ST2310 (pictured) which is a widescreen with full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution, as well as DVI/VGA/HDMI inputs plus a 50,000:1 contrast ratio with a price point of $229.

GPS QFinder GF-Q900 Compass
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: GPS
The GPS QFinder lets you mark a desired location and trace back to it with a digital compass with 8 directional arrows. Mark up to 4 different locations and the GF-Q900 will display the direction and distance to the last one on its LCD display with backlight. The QFinder has a SiRF Star III GPS chipset, 20 channel tracking, is water resistant and runs on 2 AAA batteries. At a price of $79.00, we are thinking this would be a great tool to have during the holidays when you agree to meet up with the rest of your family or to find your car in an overcrowded mall.
