Sarah Silverman Comments on Britney Jokes

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Award Shows, Comedy, Cable, Gossip,

Sarah Silverman, current Comedy Central golden girl, is still fielding comments springing from her VMA jokes. The comedienne is getting a lot of flak for calling Brit’s babies “adorable mistakes,” which Silverman maintains was meant to be a harmless joke. She went on to say she doesn’t want to be involved in a feud with Spears – or any girl half her age. Silverman is known for her off-the-cuff remarks and somewhat lewd jokes, but the touchiness surrounding this year’s award season has created more press than the results of the awards themselves. Everyone is so busy looking for controversy, we no longer have any idea what happened with any of the awards. And the haven’t even happened yet.

John Edwards Dialogue Set for MySpace and MTV

John Edwards Dialogue

MySpace and MTV have teamed together to host a one-on-one Presidential Dialogue for John Edwards, which we means that various politicos and viewers get to grill him live. It will be on this Thursday, Sept. 27 at noon, like we are going to give up our all-important lunch hour. You can ask questions via both venues and a Flektor poll is supposed to track results, although we are not quite sure why that is necessary. We don’t know if all the candidates have MySpace pages and plans, but we did note while on Edwards’ page there was a clever Google ad for Mitt Romney sandwiched in there.

Kid Rock and Tommy Lee: Round Two?

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Award Shows, Music, Reality, MTV, Gossip,

Kid Rock  Though the headlines were pushed farther down the page in the wake of Britney’s jaw-dropping performance at the MTV VMAs, the battle royale between Tommy Lee and did get some of the attention it deserved. Any time aging rockers start to duke it out over a fading, bleach-blonde actress, it’s just good entertainment. So…why not put Rock and Lee in a ring and let them duke it out for real? At least, that’s the idea that has tickled the fancy of Las Vegas showman Jeff Beacher, who is offering the rockers $1 million to fight at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. To winner go the spoils, and the odds-on favorite is already Rock. Beacher has promised that if the rockers agree, he’ll even have Mini Britney open the show. Mini Britney is the nickname of 26-year-old performer Terra Jole, who is known for her Britney impersonation.

Will Britney Spears Apologize at the Emmys?

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, FOX, Gossip, Rumors,

BritneySources are reporting to US Weekly that we could be witnessing another sighting much sooner than we had expected.  The honchos at are apparently talking to Brit’s peeps about a possible appearance.  It wouldn’t be an opportunity for her to redo what she forgot to learn last week, rather it would give her a chance to apologize for her disastrous VMA performanceThat would make two Britney-filled Sundays in a row.  Woo hoo!

While I’m seriously doubting Spears will be able to weather large crowds anytime soon (let alone speak without backup vocals), I’m sure the rumors of a surprise appearance would be enough to make the ratings-hungry producers happy.

Coincidentally, Kanye West is also scheduled to perform in Sunday’s telecast (he’ll be part of some ‘skit’ based on the music competition shows).  So will Kanye now be ranting that he and Spears were exploited by FOX?  We should be so lucky!

What Went Wrong with Britney’s VMA Performance?

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Award Shows, Music, Reality, Cable, MTV, Talent, Gossip, Rumors,

Britney Spears  If you’ve somehow missed the disparaging comments about on stage at the VMAs, you’re a better person than me – because I’ve found it’s totally unavoidable. The first day, the comments centered on Brit’s off-beat performance, her lethargic dance moves, and her completely lackluster stage presence. The second day, the news was filled with remarks about Brit’s body. The songstress has never been afraid to show off what she’s got, but critics are saying the mother of two should be covering it up instead. Video of Brit’s performance is absolutely everywhere for those that missed the MTV broadcast, and for those who just want to have a good laugh a second time around. Several reporters claim to have “the real story” behind the big B-bomb that landed on stage during award night. But does anyone, other than Spears herself, really know what went wrong?

An Open Letter—In Defense of Britney Spears

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Music, MTV, Editorial, Gossip,

Dear Video Music Awards viewers:

Britney VMAsWe’re probably all tired of talking about Ms. Spears and her disastrous performance by now…but I’d been thinking about The Biggest Loser premiere last night and I just had to get this off my chest:  Britney isn’t fat.

Yes, she’s bigger now than we she last appeared on the VMAs.

Yes, she would have looked better in the corset.

Yes, I’m sick of this alter-stripper persona that she has taken on.

But dang—I thought she looked pretty good for someone who’d drinking frozen margaritas non-stop.  And heck, I’m just happy she didn’t wear those ugly brown boots onstage!

You can call her a train wreck, bad mother, lost child all you want….but let’s lay off the weight.

Yeah, you heard me right.  I’m actually defending Britney.  But make no mistake—I’m only defending her on this one issue.  For those of you who read my first open letter to Britney, I still stand behind everything I said then.

Harmonix Co-Founder Answers Questions About Rock Band

Rock Band Guitar ControllerThe Official Xbox Magazine’s podcast has an interview this week with Harmonix co-founder and president Alex Rigopulos about their upcoming game Rock Band. In the interview he talks about the game bundles, although light on concrete details he does confirm a band-in-a-box bundle that will include a guitar, drum kit and microphone. However, he goes on to say that the PlayStation 3 version will include a wireless guitar controller while the Xbox 360 version will have to include a wired guitar because Microsoft‘s wireless technology is too expensive to make the bundle reasonably priced. Since the 360 also has only two USB ports, the 360 Rock Band bundle will also be packed with a USB hub.

Rigopulos goes on to discuss the game’s career modes a little, saying there will be both solo career mode that progresses in a linear fashion similar to what Guitar Hero players are used to, but they are also including a less linear band career mode. In this mode you traverse to various venues trying to build up your fan base and in some cases return to previously played locations to maintain your fame there. Also it’s worth noting that the solo career mode will not include a bass career track so your options are vocals, guitar and drums in solo career mode. But Rigopulos did reveal that the finale songs for each career path (and therefore likely the difficulty distinctions throughout) will be different for each instrument, and he even said that at this point the drum finale will be The Who’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”

VMAs Speared by Britney

Britney Spears VMA

For those that missed the black bikini-clad at the s last night, there are videos all over the Web and clips all over the TV. Immediately after the broadcast, the E! network started running a ticker bashing Brit’s performance. MTV’s broadcast might have been a comeback chance for Britney Spears, but her performance is getting headlines for different reasons. As stars like Sean “Diddy” Combs looked on in confusion, Spears lip-synched her way through a performance that wasn’t on beat, contained less-than-thrilling dance moves, and fell completely flat with fans. Between Brit’s bomb and the fist fight between Kid Rock and Tommy Lee, the artists who won awards were treated more like afterthoughts amid the electric-blue tables that crowded the main room, and the chaotic suites that hosted live performances. Despite encouraging words from fans and other artists, Spears still seems more like a slow-motion train wreck than pop superstar.

Official Title Announced for ‘Indiana Jones’

Indiana JonesIn a truly auspicious moment at Sunday’s Video Music Awards, Shia LeBeouf announced the title of the upcoming fourth installment in the Indiana Jones series:

So I’ve been sworn to secrecy by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas not to tell you the title of the next Indiana Jones movie. What the hell, I’m 21 and we’re in Vegas, baby, so here it goes. The official title to the next Indiana Jones installment: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The much-anticipated film has already been filming for several months and will star Harrison Ford, Shia LeBeouf, Cate Blanchett, Jim Broadbent, John Hurt, Ray Winstone and Karen Allen.  It’s scheduled to open in theatres May 22, 2008.

Does anyone else think the title is a bit busy?  I mean, at least Raiders of the Lost Ark was officially titled as such, without the Indiana Jones and the at the beginning.  It could be worse, I suppose—how about Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Shiny Crystal Skull or Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull that Bites People.  Imagine if M. Night Shyamalan, once offered a chance to write the screenplay, had penned the script: Indiana Jones and the Amish Comic Book Alien in the Water that Sees Dead People.  Scary.  But I’d love to see the poster.

Oh well, I suppose the title has little to do with the content—let’s hope that the film supersedes its bloated moniker, hmm?

The 2007 MTV Video Music Awards

MTV Moon MenBefore this evening’s festivities begin, the producers of the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards should really thank the scandal-plagued artists who’ve unintentionally thrown publicity their way.  Tonight, we’ll be thinking about those performers who’ve canceled because they need to be in rehab (Amy Winehouse) and closely watching those who should probably go back ().

We’d been warning you for weeks that this would be a one-time only telecast, but in case you forgot—we hope this helps.  And for those who live on the West Coast (like me), you can play along and read our coverage as if it were in real-time:
