Early Windows 7 screenshots
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Corporate News, Features, Microsoft, PC / Laptop, Software,
So, word on the street is that part of the first day of the All Things D conference tonight will be the unveiling of the first time of the Windows 7 operating system by Microsoft. To be clear, we shouldn’t expect Windows 7 any sooner than 2010. That said, what is shown is very much a work in progress. If you can’t wait for the video footage, which we are sure is soon to come, we also have a bunch of Windows 7 screenshots in our gallery.
We see a lot of concepts in these images. An expanded bar at the bottom of the screen, an OS X-like dock, some sort of disc-based nav system that reminds of the OLPC OS, etc. Still, nice to see that things are progressing.

Mixed Reviews for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Paramount, Action, Adventure, Sequels, Upcoming Releases,

The U.S. premiere of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is still 3 days away, but an audience at Cannes got its first glimpse yesterday. Here’s a sampling of the reviews being posted by critics today:
- Associated Press: “Except for the opening — which literally starts the film off with a bang — and a couple of dazzling chase sequences, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is about as unfocused and meandering as the title itself.”
- Entertainment Weekly: “There’s joy and a middle-aged playfulness to the best of Steven Spielberg’s unlikely sequel. And I mean that as a full compliment: All the movieman’s themes are here, his interests, obsessions, trademark strengths as a cinematic storyteller, and Spielbergian ‘tells,’ too, with hubcap and sideview mirror reflections dating back over 35 years to Duel.”

Unboxing Live 035: Drobo and DroboShare
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Features, Laptop, Networking, PC, Peripherals, Robots, Videocasts,
Drobo is billed as the “World’s first data storage robot.” We like to think of it as super, super simple data storage that also doubles as a fantastic backup destination. Backing up your data is both extremely boring, and excruciatingly essential. Apple has tried to spice things up in this area with their Time Machine technology in Leopard (which Drobo supports), and Windows Home Server offers easy backup for your Windows-based computers.
As you may recall, we got a full feature rundown of Drobo back at CES 2008, so check that out if you need a refresher, or in case you missed it. We were thoroughly impressed, and had to get our hands on one to bring you the scoop on what we think of the device after using it in the real world. While the review is soon to come, we knew you’d want to see the Drobo unboxed. Oh, and as a bonus, we also have the DroboShare as well. This add-on turns your Drobo into a NAS device, and can even pair two Drobos up together for the ultimate in small environment networked data storage.
Check out the video above for the full unboxing of the Drobo and DroboShare NAS device.
Bleeding Edge TV 263: MacBook Pro RAM upgrade tutorial
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Gizmatic, Short Bytes, Apple, Features, Hot Deals, Mods / Hacks, PC / Laptop, Podcasts, Videocasts,
In this episode, we show you how to install and upgrade the RAM in your Apple MacBook Pro, in less than five minutes. In case you weren’t aware, the last couple generations of the notebook actually support up to 4GB of RAM. We are still trying to wrap our head around that number, because for a portable, that is insane. Even better, though, is the fact that this is such a cheap upgrade when you look at the very nice boost in performance it’ll net you in return. You can buy 2 2GB RAM chips for your MacBook Pro for just over $100 USD. Again, an easy way to get more performance out of your notebook at an inexpensive price.
Check out the video for the full tutorial. If you need to buy RAM for your MacBook Pro, hit up Crucial for a great deal.
A big thank you goes out to HP for sponsoring this episode.
3G iPhone to cost $199 from AT&T
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, GPS, Handhelds, Rumors, Wireless / WiFi,

Get this - Fortune is saying that AT&T is going to be subsidizing the cost of the 3G iPhone by $200, which would mean that you could get one of the new phones for $199 USD with a 2-year contract. Now, that isn’t as crazy as it seems, as they do this with just about every other phone that they offer. They just haven’t been doing it with the first iPhone. Now, to be clear, if you made the decision to buy the phone from an Apple Store, you would be paying the full price.
Other tidbits in the Fortune article state that the new phone will be 2.5mm thinner than the current iPhone (which itself is 11.7mm thick), and that it will also include a GPS chip. Pricing will be $399 for the 8GB version, and $499 for the 16GB model, before subsidies. As with all Apple rumors, we take this one with a grain of salt, but hey, it’s Fortune, right?

Poll: When the iPhone goes 3G, will you buy one?
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Features, Rumors,
Alright, so we know that the 3G iPhone will be in our hands in the next couple of months. What we need to know from you guys is if it is enough to push you over the edge to buy. Do you already own an iPhone? Are you happy with it to the point where you won’t be upgrading until it no longer works? Or are you the type to go sell it immediately so you can get the 3G version right away? We know there are even some of you out there who are disenchanted with this whole iPhone thing, and you guys stick with your Blackberrys, Windows Mobile phones, etc. In any case, let us know how all these recent iPhone rumors are affecting your psyche.
Miley Cyrus Apologizes for Racy Internet Photos
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Music, Television, Child Stars, Photos, Breaking News,

This has definitely been a whopper of a week for singer Miley Cyrus. Not only is she on the cover of People (Miley is one of the World’s Richest Kids, if you didn’t know), she’s admitted to being embarrassed by her new Vanity Fair photo spread and just now apologized for the internet pics viewed by every teen in America.
Via an exclusive statement issued to the magazine, the 15-year-old tries to chalk up her self-portraits to youthful errors in judgment:
“The pictures of me on the Internet were silly, inappropriate shots. I appreciate all the support of my fans, and hope they understand that along the way I am going to make mistakes and I am not perfect. I never intended for any of this to happen and I am truly sorry if I have disappointed anyone. Most of all, I have let myself down. I will learn from my mistakes and trust my support team. My family and my faith will guide me through my life’s journey.”
Of course, you didn’t intend for this to happen. No one ever does.
(You can find more stories about Miley and her photos here.)
