Toshiba is putting out a lot of new laptops, and one of many fine specimens is the Qosmio G60/97J a “high-end computer, digital TV, and Blu-ray player all in one”. It features a 18.4 inch full HD LCD screns, and two TV tuners (one for recording, one for watching). It also has a Core 2 Duo P8700 processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB HDD, GeForce GT230M, IEEE 802.11n Wi-Fi, Ethernet, HDMI port, and Windows 7. It should hit Japan at the end of November for $3,200 with a trimmed down version with weaker resolution and memory for $800 less.

LG HB954SP HTIB Blu-ray system features iPod and iPhone dock
Posted by Mark Rollins Categories: Home Entertainment

LG is set to make you consider a HTIB set with their HB954SP, a 5.1 channel surround sound system with five speakers and a subwoofer, all pushing 1,000 total watts of power. It also includes a BD-Live-enabled Blu-ray player that has an iDock - basically an iPod dock that you can use to charge an iPod or iPhone.
Expect to see the HB954SP HTIB launch sometime in November. No mention of price, but we are thinking it won’t be cheap.

Panasonic 50-inch 3D 1080p Blu-ray Plasma TV
Posted by Mark Rollins Categories: Displays, HDTV

Last January, we got a chance to see Panasonic‘s 3D demonstration on their 103-inch screen, and it appears that the company was able to shrink it down for the typical consumer, and they’ll be showing it off at CEATEC 2009 next week. Their 50-inch screen is meant for the typical consumer (starting with early adopters.) To take advantage of 3D on this set, you need to use it alongside a 3D-compatible Blu-ray player along with shutter glasses. There is no word on a price point, but these 3D TVs should be all the rage next year.

Clearly, I must be into reporting Samsung products this morning, as they have not only released that S9110 watch phone, but a new Blu-ray Home Theater In a Box.

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: PC / Laptop, Software

You may not know this, but the underground Swiss Army knife of video playing software known as VLC, a project that started 8 and a half years ago, has finally hit version 1.0. Along the new version comes plenty of new features, including high definition codecs, AirTunes streaming, support for Blu-Ray linear PCM, and plenty of bug fixes. If you play video on your computer, you’ll definitely want to give this one a download to try it out.
VLC 1.0 is completely free and is available for download on Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.
