Tom Bihn Smart Alec Laptop Backpack Review

Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Accessories, Wearables, Features, PC / Laptop, Product Reviews,
Quality and Convenience. These are the words that immediately come to mind about Tom Bihn’s Smart Alec laptop backpack and accessories. Available in 4 color combinations, this bag is as stylish as it is functional. But let’s start with Quality. The large, roomy (18.5” x 11.75” x 7.75”), Smart Alec is made of 1050 denier Ballistic and 1000 denier Cordura nylons, and is lined with 500 denier Dupont Cordura nylon. Translation? This bag is strong, and seemingly indestructible, exemplified by their lifetime guarantee. Plus, both the back of the backpack and the straps are heavily padded. My first time out with Alec, I was carrying at least 10 pounds of laptop and other stuff—and yet Alec was surprising comfortable on my back. If you plan on using the Smart Alec as a laptop bag, I highly recommend the Brain Cell, a soft, lightweight but tough-as-nails shell for your computer, with 8mm of durable foam padding. The Brain Cell (which, with its two mesh pockets and shoulder strap attachments can itself be used as a laptop bag) is of the highest quality and durability. The Brain Cell even attaches to the interior of the Smart Alec with “Annex Clips”, further securing your precious PC. I actually dropped Alec twice—with my laptop inside—and wasn’t even remotely concerned about damage to my Gateway. That’s how confident I was in the Brain Cell (my laptop is just fine, by the way).

Vonage Keeps Changing Our E-911 Settings To An Incorrect Address

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Broadband, Corporate News, Editorial, Features, Smart Home,
Vonage E-911 isn’t helping us at all in our home. For some reason, despite inputting the correct address over and over, Vonage automatically changes it to a completely different address. One that isn’t even in the same city, in fact. At first, it was an annoyance. You see, when we signed up for Vonage, we gave them our address and thought that was that. A couple weeks later, we got a confirmation email saying that the address we submitted was accepted - however, in the email, it listed an address we had never seen before. Odd, we thought. We changed it back, and went along on our way…until a couple weeks later we got the same email. Our change has been accepted, but…again, Vonage changed our submission to that same address in a city that is ten minutes from where we have service. We changed it back, and dropped Vonage a support email. We never heard back from Vonage on support. However, two days ago we needed to call an ambulance to rush our 3-year old to the hospital in what was a life-threatening situation. Fortunately, the 911 operator has our correct address come up on her screen - something that when you are in the midst of an emergency, you don’t want to take the time to have to recite.
However, the day AFTER that frantic 911 call, guess what we found in our email inbox…

Live Notes from Steve Jobs WWDC 2007 Keynote

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Features, PC / Laptop, Video Games,
Steve Jobs is set to deliver another of his hypnotizing keynote speeches this morning from the 2007 Worldwide Developers Conference. We are here to bring you live notes, thoughts and commentary on all Steve has to say about the future of Apple and it’s products. Let’s jump in, as things are getting started:
- After another “I’m a PC, I’m a Mac” skit, Steve takes the stage and begins to give us a few WWDC 2007 numbers. There are over 5,000 attendees at the event this year, which makes it the biggest ever. There are over 950,000 Apple Developer Connection members.
- We have just realized that the Apple Store has just gone down. New products for us today?
- Steve talks about the transition to Intel, and how seamless and fantastic it all has been. Intel CEO Paul Otellini hits the stage to accept a shiny award disc from Steve, and says a few words which can all be summed up by saying that Intel has enjoyed working with Apple. Steve says he is proud of the Macs they are shipping with Intel chips inside them.
