<Edit: Fixed Direct Download Link to actually download episode 82 -Andy>
This is the show whereon we may be banned from all MS events unto enternity….
... and if we are, well, that will speak volumes about Microsoft.
It’s a veritable cornucopia of co-hosts, as Andy, Hawkes, Edie and Steve519 (from XBLRadio) initially intend to talk up this week’s gaming news but instead delve deep into what we think is a growing plague on the landscape of podcasting: Corporate Lapdoggery. Yes, this is the episode where we pretty much rip apart Microsoft’s MVP program and pretty much expect we’ll be banned from all Microsoft events from now on.
We didn’t want to do it, but it had to be done. What can I say, kids, after months and months of everyone thinking it, someone had to pipe up and say the emperor has no clothes.
Just be warned, we’ll say a lot of stuff that will make us enemies, but we believe we are firmly on the side of truth, fairness, and the open exchange of information. We believe that you should be able to trust podcasts—any podcast—as much as you trust your local newspaper. Is that too much to ask? And even though we’ll probably take a lot of heat for this, we’d rather be dead right than alive and wrong.
AND!! There’s a contest for Halo2 and Shadowrun for Vista and Stalker for the PC (XP or Vista). Just listen before the first break and the end of the show to find out how to win!
As a listener (and the type of lkistener I am) it really does not affect me. Were I a podcaster and considering myself a true journalist and not a fanboy trying to lick the corporate sack, I would probably be as fired up as you guys are. You have very valid points.
It was my bad. I was having major computer issues and did a cut and paste of the “how to get the show” part from an older post.
But I forgot to change the link from episode 79 to episode 82. So you were getting “Episode 79: Happy Goat Fun Time” before.
Thanks, Hawkes got me all piqued to listen to the show so I d/l’ed it, slammed it onto my mp3 player, and fired it up while at the gym… and no Hawkes, and an old episode, and I was like, WTF - did I just have a brain fart and download the wrong Ep?
Whew. That clears that up now, and I’m finally d/ling the episode so I can get with the program!
Well I liked the show, and I think that shows that are going to be NEWS shows need to talk about NEWS not “oh and the blah blah does this amazing thing, and can do no wrong!!!” Yeah, well that in itself is wrong. I like podcasting (I have done a couple with friends and I listen to a lot) but if a site or podcast, is going to call itself independent, they need to be that independent. If a company wants to give them nice stuff, that is nice of the company, the site should not then only say good things about that company.
i have dl’d this on itunes, and its messed up. the itunes store lists the time of the podcasts length as 2 hrs, the downloaded file only has 1 hr and 13 min.
@Batkinson001 - Thats my bad, we rushed to get this up because of the editing problems (swear to god one day I won’t have to ever say those two words in the same sentence again)
I forgot to change the time of the show on the feed
I’m still working my way through the ‘cast, but Edie: I’m not sure if I am kidding or not, but maybe the Joystiq’qers are waaaay hungry when they post those food pics?
Great show and I agree 100%. My displeasure was growing with them anyway and you addressed that and more. I rambled on in my contest email but I am behind you guys. You should see the sheep at their blog post and completely miss the point.
The way I see it, the MVP program sounds exactly like that website that Sony made to promote the PSP (miserable failure, btw), except that they’re using real people this time, instead of a fake persona/facade on a website. Also, it’s MS instead of Sony, but that shouldn’t matter much.
Pancakes.
I’m going to have to be honest with you guys about the podcast, though; this is an important issue, and it needs to be fixed, but… maybe you didn’t have to talk about it for an entire hour and fifteen minutes. I mean, come on… Forza 2 is out!
Hey, GamerEdie you have great taste in beer. I love Guinness, along with a few others. Fat Tire, Moose Drool, Sam Adams, just to name a few. Yuuuuuuuuuuuum!!! Thats a great way to start a pod-cast. Am I right?
