Amazon and Target now selling iPad
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Corporate News, Handhelds,
Both Amazon and Target are now selling the iPad, just in time for the holiday season. We’d previously mentioned that Target would get the iPad in October, but having major online retailer Amazon on board as well just gives more choice for the purchasing of the product—especially since most customers will be able to get it tax-free, along with free shipping for Amazon Prime customers. You can check out the iPad on Amazon now.

Dreamcast VMU case for iPod Nano
Posted by John Kilhefner Categories: Accessories, Apple, Mods / Hacks, Portable Audio / Video, Video Games,

There’s still a bit of Dreamcast nostalgia left around in the air circulating from it’s recent 11th anniversary and revival on Xbox Live and PSN. So what else can you do to pay tribute to that great system that died before its time? How about encasing your new iPod nano in the VMU? It may be a bit bulky in comparison to the nano, but its a cool way of showing off your Sega pride and general geekery. Imagine the look on peoples’ faces when you pull a VMU out of your pocket and nonchalantly start touching the screen and playing music. Priceless.
Check out the video after the jump.

Let the Apple TV hacking begin!
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, HDTV, Home Entertainment, Mods / Hacks,

Looks like Eric Sadun over at TUAW has found that the new Apple TV is definitely hackable, as the device is instantly recognizable by PhoneView (an OS X app that let’s you browse the disk of your iOS devices.) Since the Apple TV runs iOS and has been found to pack 8GB of storage, aside from the fact that the Apple TV version os iOS has already been hacked by the iOS Dev-Team using their SHAtter jailbreak, it’s a no-brainer that we will be seeing third-party apps on this thing at some point in the very near future.

Video: Apple TV OS ported to iPod touch
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Handhelds, Mods / Hacks, Software, Videos,
So, now we know that the new Apple TV runs iOS, which is what we expected. What we didn’t expect was that you’d be able to run the Apple TV version of iOS 4.1 on an iPod touch. The software that runs on the Apple TV is called Lowtide, and looks to operate just fine on the iPod, save for some screen real estate issues.

These cases even solve the iPhone 4 antenna issue if you have that issue, so don’t worry about that! Each phone is made by KarasKustoms in their US shop, and sell for $39.

White iPhone 4 vs. black iPhone 4 comparison
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Design, Features, Handhelds,
A few days ago we hit you with our white iPhone 4 hands-on gallery, giving you an up-close look at the device as it stands on its own. Today we’ve put together a gallery showing the yet-to-be-released white iPhone 4 next to the currently available black model. Go ahead and look through the images to see not just the obvious differences (you know…the white front and back of the device,) but also the more subtle ones. Things like the dock connector and headphone jack are also white, unlike what you’d find on the black model.
If you want to get your hands on a white iPhone 4, we’ll be sharing details soon on how you can get your hands on one, or get your black model converted with white parts. If you’re interested, let us know in the comments!

Apple updates Ping, still annoying and restrictive
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Internet, Software,

Over the weekend, Apple released iTunes 10.0.1, which mainly adds a sidebar to the music library for interaction with their Ping social network. The change makes it easier to “like” and “post” music that’s in your iTunes library to Ping, without having to actually go into the Ping area of the store. It’s obvious that the change is a way for Apple to spur more usage in Ping, which we are guessing has seen interest and usage drop since it was released at their last fall music event.
The problem with Ping is that Apple refuses to allow you to use it with any music that they don’t sell. Big Beatles fan? No way to show that in Ping, because Apple won’t let you post or like any Beatles tracks, since they don’t sell them. It’s almost asinine. Imagine if Facebook didn’t allow you to talk about anyone who didn’t have a Facebook account. Today I tried to “like” a track in my library that I was listening to, and I was greeted with the error message that you see above.
Until Apple makes Ping more of a social network, and less of a music selling tool, consider us uninterested.
