Last month, Apple released their long-awaited and redesigned MacBook Pro notebook, which spurred a bunch of excitement for all gadget lovers out there. The new unibody enclosure is sleek, and Apple even went out of their way to make it easy to upgrade the critical components that live inside the notebook yourself. Behind one door lies the hard drive and battery, both user-replaceable. Remove a few more screws, and you have direct access to your RAM.

Of course, these things are better explained in video than they are in text, which is why we’re here. In this episode of Bleeding Edge TV, we give you a full tutorial on what you need to do to upgrade the RAM in your new MacBook or MacBook Pro. If you are wondering why you’d want to do this, well, just compare the cost of what Apple charges you for 4GB of RAM versus the cost of buying the RAM yourself from a place like Newegg. You’ll save yourself a couple hundred bucks if you have a few minutes to spare.

Speck Mac Hard Shells

Speck has announced their new SeeThru and Fitted cases for the MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. The fabric-covered, form-fit hard shell covers with rubber feet are available in several styles and colors and protect your Mac against dirt, bumps, and bruises. As with most of Speck products, the covers are snap-on and off with access to keyboard, drive and ports. Each will carry a price of $69.95 to $99.95 and the company says they will add additional designs in the future.

Sure, we’ve already put up a MacBook Pro 2008 unboxing gallery, but we figured there might be a few of you out there who’d want to see the unboxing action in video form - so here it is. We bring you a look at the newly redesigned MacBook Pro, which launched just a few days ago. In case you missed it, the MacBook Pro now has an aluminum unibody enclosure, a glass display (which means, glossy - not matte,) and even a glass single-button trackpad.

Apple Spill Detection Waterproofs Your MacBook Warranty

Spill your morning coffee on your MacBook and then take it in for covered warranty service? Those days are ending; water damage is obviously a violation of the AppleCare warranty, and the new MacBook and MacBook Pro computers, introduced last week, include what cellphones have had for years: Liquid Submersion Indicators, which alert technicians to water damage. Located under the keyboard and near the trackpad, the sensors change color when exposed to a liquid. Once these sensors are activated, there is no way to undo the process, so you’re just gonna have to fess up next time, so please - no more Shirley Temples near the hardware, okay?

A few days ago, at the Apple notebook event, the company unveiled their newly redesigned MacBook (gallery) and MacBook Pro (gallery) portables. We were able to get our hands on the new MacBook and MacBook Pro, and in this video, we compare each to their last generation counterpart. That’s right, we put the white MacBook up against the newer aluminum MacBook, compare the older MacBook Pro to the new one, and to top it all off, we bring in a MacBook Air for comparisons sake as well. MacBook aluminum unboxing gallery

Two days ago, Apple revealed their redesigned MacBooks and MacBook Pros during their notebook event. We were able to track them down, and now have our hands on the new goods. First up, we bring you an unboxing gallery for the newly redesigned MacBook. It’s made of aluminum, and looks like a miniature MacBook Pro. Apple updated MacBook Air with NVIDIA graphics, more storage

During this mornings notebook event, Apple announced that the MacBook Air was getting a bump in some of its specs. First and foremost, the Air is getting updated to the new NVIDIA 9400M graphics chipset, which should be a nice upgrade. Even better, if SSD is your thing, you’ll be pleased to know that a 128GB solid state drive is now available, along with a standard 120GB drive if that is more your thing. microDVI has been replaced by a mini DisplayPort, which we are seeinc across the board with Apple. You can grab the base model for $1799, or go with the SSD model with 1.86GHz Core 2 Duo for the lowered price of $2499 (that one is due in November.)

Apple notebook event this Tuesday

Apple has just announced that their next event will be taking place this coming Tuesday (read: five days from today), confirming rumors that October 14th would be the day that new notebooks would be unveiled. The company sent invitations to select media this morning, with a graphic of a notebook featuring the sub-heading “The spotlight turns to notebooks.“ So, what should you expect to see? Well, if the rumor mill is correct, we’ll see updates across the board in the MacBook and MacBook Pro lines, including a new manufacturing process that sees the notebook casing carved out of a single block of aluminum. There are also rumblings of a true netbook from Apple as well, possibly launching in the $800 range.

As always, take these rumors with a grain of salt - but as we’ve seen with recent iPhone and iPod news, the latest Apple rumors have pretty much come to fruition.
