White iPhone 4 hands-on gallery

The white iPhone 4. Delayed multiple times, with current understanding that it will be available from Apple to the general public sometime before the end of the year, this is one of the most curious Apple delays in history. We’ve got our hands on a white iPhone 4 model—they aren’t non-existent by any means. In fact, a bunch of employees at Apple have them and use them as their primary device, and the factories over in Asia are pumping out the parts for these phones in order to perfect the white model to get it ready for the launch this fall.
We will be getting into a bit more about what’s holding up the white version of the iPhone 4 in just a bit, and we’ll also let you know how you can get your own. In our opinion, the white model is just gorgeous, but there are one or two things Apple will wanna fix before releasing them to the masses. For now, take a look at our white iPhone 4 hands-on gallery. One interesting note, it’s not just the front and back glass that are white—the dock connector is also white, as is the inside of the headphone jack.

iPad comes to Target on October 3

If you’ve wanted to pick up an iPad but haven’t gotten around to it yet, you’ll have another option as far as purchasing location in a little over a week, as Target stores will start selling the Apple tablet on October 3 in both the WiFi and 3G flavors. Even better, if you’ve got a Target credit card, they’ll be having a 5% off special for the iPad beginning October 17th. The holiday season is upon us.

Some Apple TV orders delayed by up to 3 weeks

Did you order one of those new $99 Apple TV units that Apple announced at their fall music event? If so, you may wanna keep an eye on your inbox, because the company has been sending notices to some customers letting them know that their orders have been delayed by 2-3 weeks:
“Our records indicate that when you placed your order you paid for upgraded shipping,” Apple wrote in the emails. “Due to a delay, we may have not been able to meet our delivery commitment.”
We’re guessing that this is a case where more people were interested in picking up the $99 box than Apple had expected to be able to send out before September finishes out. However, if you go to the Apple TV page on the Apple Store, it still shows that the device will ship within this month.

NeatDesk for Mac review

If you’re anything like me, you’ve got tons of paper sitting around that would be better served being scanned into your computer and kept in some sort of document management system, rather than in piles around the house or on your desk. A couple of weeks ago, we got the NeatDesk for Mac Desktop Scanner system in for review. The NeatDesk (available on Amazon) is really more than just a scanner, since it also includes the NeatWorks document management software, which in and of itself claims to do a lot, and works with a bunco of other scanners as well (you can buy NeatWorks software on its own.) When the scanner arrived, we were excited to give it a try…but that feeling soon turned to impending doom. If this thing was anything like the NeatReceipts scanner we’ve been using for the past couple of years, it meant that we’d be in for a day full of long, slow scans. You know what? We couldn’t have been more wrong.

How the iPhone changed the life of a blind user forever

We were just sent a pretty awesome story about a blind users first week with the iPhone that we just had to share. For those unfamiliar, the iPhone has some pretty extensive and amazing accessibility features aimed at blind users that helps them use the seemingly impossible to navigate (without sight) device. I’ve seen those features in action, but of course, I’m able to see…so it’s hard for me to judge them in practical use, despite coming easy feeling like Apple did a great job in planning their accessibility features.
Now we get to hear first-hand what the iPhone can do for the blind. Even more impressive than just acting as a phone and testing device, the right apps are able to offer insights into the world that the blind have never had easy access to. Particularly awesome is the part about the app that uses the iPhone camera to tell you what colors the phone is “seeing.” You’ll have to read it for yourself to get the full picture.
The one glaring problem? The fact that Apple forces you to use iTunes with the device, which is apparently a chore for the blind. Hell, it’s hard enough for a sighted person to get through that mess.

iOS 4.2 beta for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch now available

Hey, so you know that iOS 4.2 software update that’ll bring multitasking, folders, printing, and a bunch more 4.0 features to the iPad? Well, if you’re a developer, you can download the iOS 4.2 beta right this second. You can install it on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. Just know that printing currently requires a specific HP printer, or a pre-release version of Mac OS X 10.6.5…but we’re sure you don’t care about all that, and you just wanna get your hands on the update. If you aren’t in the iPhone Developer program, you better find a friend who is!
