Nintendo’s Zelda 40th Anniversary Pro Controller Comes with a Display Stand

Nintendo built a controller that comes with its own display stand, which tells you exactly what it expects you to do with it.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller: The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition showed up at today's Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct and lands October 29. The right grip is green, the left is black, a gold Triforce runs across the middle of the face, the trigger buttons are gold, and there's a small Hylian crest tucked up top. It launches the same day as the matching Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 console and a carrying case with screen protector, both wearing the same gold Triforce on black (we've got a separate post on the console).

Two ways to buy it, and one of them is going to be a pain

You can get the controller on its own, or you can get it bundled with the display stand. The stand version is a Nintendo Store exclusive, which means Nintendo's online store plus the two physical stores in New York and San Francisco. You won't find the stand version at any other retailer, and it's the version most people are going to want.

If you've tried to buy anything limited from Nintendo's own store, you know where this is headed. The standalone controller should be easy enough to find at regular retailers. The one with the stand is the one you'll be refreshing a page for.

What it costs, as far as anyone has said

Nintendo's Japanese press release lists the stand bundle at 12,980 yen with tax. Australia has the controller up for AU$149.95. Nintendo hasn't announced a US price for either version, and neither of those numbers converts cleanly into one, so I'm not going to pretend they do.

For a reference point, the standard Switch 2 Pro Controller sells for $89.99 in the US. It launched at $84.99 in 2025 and went up that August; the September 1 price hike this year hit the console itself, and Nintendo hasn't said anything about accessories moving with it. A special edition with a stand in the box is going to cost more than $89.99. How much more is Nintendo's call, and it hasn't made it yet.

Inside, it's a Pro Controller

Nothing Nintendo has shown or said suggests there's anything different under the shell. As far as anyone knows, it's the Pro Controller you can already buy, in new colors. You're paying for the paint, the gold, and the stand.

That's fine, and I'd rather Nintendo be upfront about it than bolt on a gimmick to justify the price. But it also means the honest pitch is a cosmetic one. If you don't care about Zelda, the regular controller does the identical job for less money and you can buy it today.

This one's for the person with a shelf. The stand exists because Nintendo knows a lot of these will spend more time being looked at than being held, and the green-and-gold treatment is handsome enough that I get it. The standalone version is for the person who's going to put a few hundred hours of Ocarina of Time on it (the Switch 2 remake arrives November 5, a week after the controller).

Either way, if it's the stand you want, be on Nintendo's site the moment preorders open. There's nowhere else to get it.
