The Translucent Green Xbox Series X25 Is $899, and Pre-Orders Open Thursday Morning

If you were a kid in 2001 and you ever saw one of the see-through green Xbox consoles, you know why this thing exists. Microsoft confirmed the details for the Xbox Series X25 during its gamescom broadcast on Wednesday: translucent OG green shell, guts visible through the case, every unit individually numbered with its own engraving.

It costs $899.99 in the US (£759.99 in the UK) and launches November 13, 2026, right up against the 25th anniversary of the original Xbox. Pre-orders open Thursday, August 27 at 7 a.m. Pacific / 10 a.m. Eastern on the Xbox site and at participating retailers, limited to one per customer. Some longtime Xbox customers got emailed early access on Wednesday.

What you get in the box

The console comes bundled with the matching X25 Special Edition Wireless Controller, which carries the same translucent green treatment, an old-school green Xbox logo on the home button, bright ABXY buttons, and an XBOX 25 stamp in the corner. Microsoft is also including a full digital copy of Halo: Campaign Evolved, the remake of the original Halo campaign.

If you only want the controller, it's sold separately for $79.99 and ships earlier, on October 20. Pre-orders for that are already live.

About that price

Internally, this is a Xbox Series X. Same silicon, same performance, same games running the same way. You're paying roughly a $100 premium over a standard Series X for a paint job, a serial number, and a copy of Halo. That's how limited edition hardware has always worked, and pretending otherwise would be silly.

Whether it's worth it depends on what you want out of it. If you're buying a console to play games, the regular one plays the same games for less money. If you're buying a piece of Xbox history to sit on a shelf with the light hitting it right, the numbered engraving and the translucent shell are the point, and $100 is the cost of admission.

Expect this to be ugly Thursday morning

Limited edition hardware plus a hard anniversary date plus a one-per-customer cap plus a pre-order window that opens at a specific minute is a recipe you've seen before. It ends with resellers. If you want one at retail price, have your account logged in, your payment method saved, and the page loaded before 7 a.m. Pacific, and be ready to try more than one retailer at once.

If you miss it, the standard Series X plays everything the X25 does for less money. The green one is prettier and it is not faster.
