Radio Shack Sued for Identity Theft Violation

Radio Shack logoThe Texas Attorney General’s office has sued RadioShack with charges that they exposed consumers to potential theft by dumping data with addresses and credit card numbers into a trash bin without shredding them first. The civil suit claims that the business violates its Identity Theft Enforcement and Protection Act, which requires companies to protect consumers’ records that contain sensitive material. That law will allow up to $50,000 per violation. That’s a tidy slap on the hand to make them, and hopefully other businesses, pay attention.
