Jaguar’s Type 01 Is Real. Nobody Agrees on What It Costs in the US.

Jaguar spent nearly two years as a car company you could argue about but not buy a car from. That ended at a world premiere in New York on October 7, where the Type 01 turned up as a finished production car with a factory, a build date, and prices in at least two currencies. It is a four-door electric grand tourer, and it is the first Jaguar you will be able to order since the company tore its own brand down and started again.
The hardware is serious. Three motors make a combined 758 kW and 1,365 Nm of torque, which other outlets have converted to roughly 1,015 hp, and the reported 0 to 62 mph time is about 3.2 seconds. Jaguar also built the car around its own 850-volt architecture, so it takes up to 350 kW on a DC charger. The company says that puts about 320 km of range back in 13 minutes. On a long drive, that is the difference between a coffee stop and a meal.
Jaguar hasn't published WLTP numbers yet
The company is quoting up to about 720 km, or roughly 400 miles, from a 118 kWh pack. Treat that as a target. WLTP certification hasn't been published, so there is no official figure to hold Jaguar to. Electrive worked the implied efficiency out at 16 to 17 kWh per 100 km, which is good going for a car that is 5.24 metres long and two metres wide. Good going on paper, anyway. Nobody outside Jaguar has driven one far enough to check.
What Jaguar left out
There is no grille and no rear window. Rear visibility comes from a camera feeding a letterbox screen at the base of the windscreen, the same trick Polestar pulled with the 4. The drag coefficient is 0.23, the wheels are 23 inches, the roofline is low (1.41 metres tall on a 3.20 metre wheelbase), and the door handles sit flush with the body.
Inside, Jaguar went minimal. There is a 24-inch display behind a two-spoke wheel, a 7-inch portrait touchscreen for climate and audio, and not much else to press. The back is a strict two-seat arrangement split by a centre spine, with its own 7-inch screen. The compromises are the ones you would guess from the shape: small door openings, a bit of planning required to get into the rear, and modest cargo space for a car this long.
Nobody agrees on the US price
Germany has the clearest number, 165,000 euros to start. UK coverage has settled on about 130,000 pounds. The US figure is where it falls apart. Robb Report's write-up says to expect around $130,000, while other outlets have printed figures as high as roughly $172,500. Those are not rounding errors on the same car. If you are in America and thinking about one, the honest answer is that nothing firm has been published yet.
When you can actually get one
Order books open in early 2027, and production starts in the second half of 2027 at Solihull in the UK, where Jaguar says it retrained close to 9,000 workers for the job. Drive units and battery packs come from Wolverhampton, body panels from Halewood, which makes the Type 01 British-built end to end.
Jaguar is no longer chasing BMW and Mercedes with this car. The price, the four seats and the two-metre width put it nearer Bentley, which is a far smaller pool of buyers and a much harder one to impress. The rebrand earned Jaguar an enormous amount of attention, most of it unkind. The Type 01 is where that has to turn into paying orders.
