Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8

If you though that Apple had the exclusive on announcing a major smartphone in September, think again. Word is coming out that Nokia is also looking to announce its next-generation Windows Phone 8 smartphones in September at Nokia World. Bloomberg reports that someone "with knowledge of the matter" has said that the unveiling of the new line of Windows 8 Nokia Lumia smartphones will happen on September 5, one week before Apple is scheduled to show off the new iPhone 5. Pretty smart, if you ask us.

YouTube iPhone removal

Apple released iOS 6 beta 4 this morning to developers, and one change that was immediately apparent is that the YouTube app has been removed. YouTube was revealed as the final, 12th built-in app for the original iPhone shortly before its launch, and has been a part of iOS (nee iPhone OS) since the very beginning. Of course, Apple is looking to get away from relying on Google products in its operating system as evidenced by the removing of Google Maps from the mapping app.

We've received word that Google is currently working on a standalone, official YouTube app that users will be able to download from the App Store for free. All in all, we don't find this to be much of a big deal. There are plenty of Google apps that can be found in the App Store, and putting YouTube there as well makes perfect sense.

AT&T Mobile Share

Mobile carriers in the U.S. are finally jumping on board with shared data plans, allowing customers with multiple devices to draw from the same data bucket. Unfortunately, for most of these, it's a horrible deal financially. Still, there are some who'd appreciate this kind of thing, and as such we want to let you know that AT&T will be launching it's shared data plans beginning on August 23rd. You can set up all your devices like smartphones, tablets, gaming devices (like the Playstation Vita,) mobile hotspots, and more to all draw from one bucket of data beginning on that date. AT&T has set up a page where you can calculate what it would cost to add all your devices to a single plan.

Mini dock connector

Last month iMore reported that Apple was set to unveil the next-generation iPhone and smaller 7.85-inch iPad during a media event to be held on September 12. Now, the site is also reporting that we will likely see a refresh of the entire iOS line at the event.

The report goes on to say that the reason for the mass refresh is to bring the new, smaller dock connector to all iOS devices. This would include the new iPhone 5, updated iPod touch, new iPod nano, the 7.85-inch iPad mini, and even an updated version of the third-generation iPad.

If true, this would mark the first time that Apple has deviated from the spring release and refresh date for the iPad, however, with the introduction of a new dock connector, we can see a minor update reflecting that change in order to bring on fast adoption of the updated standard.

iOS 6 beta 4 download

Apple has just released iOS 6 beta 4 as an over-the-air download a few minutes ago. We knew something was up when one of our readers alerted us that the Software Update feature was failing with an odd error message, and within a few minutes, beta 4 became available. This release comes a little over a seven weeks after the initial iOS 6 beta that was released during WWDC 2012, just over five weeks since iOS beta 2 was made available, and three weeks since beta 3 first arrived. If you're on an iPhone 4S the download 282 MB in size, while the beta 4 update on the new iPad weighs in at 291 MB. Check Software Update in your settings app to grab it now!
