Nokia Booklet 3G extended promo video

has put together a nice promotional video, shot here in Seattle, and featuring a bunch of my friends giving their thoughts on mobile devices, and the Booklet 3G in general. Obviously, the big thing here is the 8-12 hour battery life on this Nokia laptop. Needless to say, we can’t wait to get our hands on this one.

Nokia XpressMusic X6 and X3 announced

Nokia XpressMusic X6 and X3

has just announced two new additions to its XpressMusic line with the the X6 and X3.  The X6 has 32MB of internal storage, a 3.2-inch touchscreen, and a 5-megapixel camera. It also sports a TV-out and Comes with Music unlimited copy-rotected downloads.

As for the X3, it’s the first Series-40 phone to ship with the Ovi Store, has a 2.2-inch non-touchscreen, 3.2 megapixel camera, and FM radio. You’ll need to use MicroSD cards for storage on this one. The X3 will cost 115 Euros ($160,) while the X6 will run for 459 Euros ($650.)

If you’re looking for an inexpensive phone that incorporates 3G and GPS into it’s arsenal (and, for whatever reason, don’t want the $99 ,) then the Nokia 5230 might be right up your alley. The 5230 has a 3.2 touchscreen, a microSD memory card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Symbian S60 Operating System.  It also has a 2 megapixel camera - not fancy by any means, but hey, this is supposed to be a budget phone. We don’t have final pricing, but before subsidies, the phone costs $213.

Nokia E81I like it when mobile phone designers start thinking outside of the box, .  It would appear that some knockoff designer from Nokla is trying for female appeal with their E81 concept, a phone that swivels like a compact.  This creates a phone with less volume, for certain, and the back even has a mirror, perfect for those quick make-up checks and applications.

Nokia Denies Android Smartphone Development

Sorry to all you hopefuls out there, but won’t be releasing an -based smartphone later this year. Where would such a thought come from, you ask? Well, earlier this morning, The Guardian said it would happen, and that a Nokia Android phone would be announced in September. Seemed odd, since Nokia is the full owner of the Symbian OS, but stranger things have happened. However, soon after the article was posted, Nokia show it down anywhere they could, including on Twitter:

“re: Nokia’s rumored Android phone and you can quote me on this: We (Nokia) are NOT making an Android smartphone. Symbian is our platform…”

While we take most denials with a grain of salt, we believe them. At ease, Symbian fanatics.


Europe Chooses micro-USB Phone Charger Standard

Cell Phone chargersWe wish that other places were as up to date technologically as Europe. Sony Ericsson, Nokia, RIM, Apple and other companies have joined with the European Union to standardize a universal USB cell phone charger next year. Not only will it be easier to only have one charger, it will be good for the environment. Phones built with the new standard in mind should start hitting European shelves next year.

Intel and Nokia to Collaborate on Electronics

Nokia/IntelIntel and Nokia are teaming to build better electronics. Intel wants to utilize their smaller, lower power chips for netbooks to be used in Nokia’s smartphones. The companies will also be collaborating on improving open-source software for mobile devices. The thinking is that having Intel inside Nokia phones will sell more of them. This may be, although no specific products have been announced thus far.

Nokia N97 Ships This Month

Nokia will finally begin shipping its N97 “Mobile Computer” this month to 75 countries, even though it began accepting pre-orders last month. The first batch will come packed with their Ovi Store. No specific countries were named, but we expect that North America and much of Europe will be on the list. Nokia VP Jonas Geust said that he is hoping it will be as successful as their N95, which has sold more than 10 million units during Q1 2009.

Nokia Ovi App Store to Open Soon

OviNokia’s Ovi (Finnish for “door”) App Store will soon be open. Niklas Savander, the company’s EVP of services, claims that it will have a catalog with 20,000 items. The site can be accessed either in a preloaded N97 or downloaded onto Nokia products. Short videos, “mobisodes,” and other media and entertainment files can be found in several languages. A custom-built recommendation engine and GPS app will also be available.
