New Samsung Galaxy S III color options revealed
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Smartphones, Design,

When the Samsung Galaxy S III was announced, we thought the two colors that it would be available in, white and pebble blue, both looked great and should satisfy anyone. Not so, says Samsung. The company is set to drop four additional Galaxy S III colors: Sapphire Black, Amber Brown, Titanium Gray, and Garnet Red (which AT&T got a bit early.) The colors will be mixed between various carriers, so don't expect to have your pick of the litter at your local store, okay?

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Editorial, Features, Software,

With iOS 6, Apple will be introducing new iPhone functionality that's aimed at alleviating the frustration many feel when connected to a weak WI-Fi hotspot. The feature is called Wi-Fi Plus Cellular, it helps keep the data flowing, and it can end up costing you some unexpected cash if you aren't careful.

Last week we told you that a bunch of current Kindle ereaders were no longer available, and today the Kindle Touch joins that list. At this point, we'd say it's a sure thing that Amazon's September 6 event will be focused on refreshing the entire Kindle line. Both the Wi-Fi version and the 3G version of the Kindle Touch is out of stock, so if you were really, really wanting one and can't wait a week-and-a-half, you'd better be hitting up Craigslist.

You know what we mean. Your smartphones is typically the camera you have with you at all times, right? The project is currently raising funds on Kickstarter, and has raised $23,140 out of the $80,000 goal, and there are just 4 days left. Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Science,

Hip hop and pop performer, producer, Grammy-winner, and all-around mogul Will.i.am is set to premiere his new track tomorrow, but Earthlings won't be able to enjoy it. Why? Well, Will.i.am is debuting his new song "Reach for the Stars" on Mars. Wait, what?
No, seriously. The music will be piped through the Mars Curiosity Rover before debuting here on our humble, overrated planet. What's the over/under on Martians being discovered when they seek out Curiosity, destroying it to stop the insipid music? Tonight's gonna be a good night.

The next-generation iPhone 5 leaks continue, this time seemingly revealing a built-in NFC module. NFC code has been found in iPhone prototypes, and Apple has even patented its method for including NFC into a future iPhone--and it just so happens that the patents and the location of this new chip match up perfectly (the top-left corner of the front of the device.) At the iOS 6 reveal, Apple showed off its Passbook digital wallet app. Since then, many have commented that NFC might be the perfect companion to Passbook. We'll find out on September 12.

Next-generation iPhone to be announced September 12, iPad mini in October?
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Handhelds, Rumors,

For the past few weeks, we figured that Apple would be unveiling both its next-generation iPhone 5 as well as a 7.85-inch iPad at the same event on September 12. We thought it made sense that the company would introduce its new iOS devices all at once, but Daring Fireball's John Gruber theorized that a simultaneous unveiling might not be in the cards because then the two devices would steal each other's thunder, so to speak.

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, PC / Laptop, Software,

Hot on the heels of the release of OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.1, Apple has seeded 10.8.2 to developers, and it includes a couple of interesting features. With 10.8.2 should come the built-in Facebook integration that Apple promises will come to Mountain Lion this fall. In addition, iMessage phone number merging appears in 10.8.2 as well, a feature that will allow users to receive iMessages sent to their phone numbers on their Macs, iPads, and iPod touch devices. Apple asks developers to also focus on Game Center and Reminders in the first 10.8.2 build 12C31a.
Facebook 5.0 for iOS brings amazing speed boost
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Social Networking, App Updates, iPad Apps, Free Apps,

Facebook has (finally!) released its updated iOS app that's been rewritten from the ground-up in native iOS dev code. That means that instead of being HTML5 based (and super-slow,) it's now twice as fast. There are other visual tweaks, but they're relatively subdued. You can scroll faster in the News Feed, pictures are a bit larger, there are nicer animations, and Timeline profile pages can now be viewed on the iPad app. All nice, but make no mistake about it, the star here is the fantastic speed of the app. You can download Facebook 5.0 for your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch now, for free on the App Store.
