Sony Nexus X

Rumor has it that Google may release two new Nexus devices: one made by LG, and the other by Sony. Two photos have popped up on the Piscasa photo sharing site, and they seemingly reveal an angled image of a device with Sony and Google branding on the back. This could be a hoax, but from a competitive perspective, two Nexus devices are better than one. The idea could propel the Nexus brand from a niche market to the mainstream; much like what Samsung did with the Galaxy line. Also, the image details shows that it was taken with a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. We caught a  screenshot of it before the author decided to remove that piece of important detail. More images after the break.

Macbook Pro 13 inch Retina display

First reported by 9to5Mac, AllThingsD is also reporting that a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display may be anounced alongside the 7.85-inch iPad mini during a speculated Apple invite-only press event on the 23rd of October. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display is rumored to have a 2560 x 1600 display (226 pixels per inch,) the same port layout as the 15-inch model, and the same all flash storage configuration. Also like the 15-inch model, the smaller version will be priced much higher than the non-Retina display MacBook Pro of the same size. All in all, it appears that the next Apple event will focus on new size iterations, rather than on entirely new products.

Google Maps for iOS 6

iOS developer Ben Guild has received alleged information on a Google Maps app for iOS 6 that is currently in alpha testing; including the classic blurry cam pics. The much desired Google Maps app is fast, vector-based, supports two-finger rotation to any angle, and is iPhone 5 ready. Unfortunately, there's no ETA of when it will arrive at the App Store. Of course, arrival time is not as important as making sure the app is tested and fully baked for consumers before launching. When all is said and done, Google Maps should be a free download for users.

Leaked iPad Mini Battery

MacRumors has obtained photos of what is reported to be the internal battery for the upcoming iPad mini. As indicated by the battery's marking of 3.72 volts, the battery life on the 7.85-inch iPad is expected to be between an iPhone and fully sized new iPad, 16.7 Whr of juice on 4490 mAh of charge. As a disclaimer, we can't yet authenticate if the leaked part is legitimately from Apple, but based on other Apple-designed batteries, it has the familiar markings of past and current products. The battery is still in regulatory limbo, and is subject to be changed if needed.

The iPad mini is rumored to be unveiled on October 23rd. How's that for doubling down on secrecy?

The Walking Dead Season 3

Oh Walking Dead, you make this so difficult! That’s because it’s hard to write about The Walking Dead without giving anything away.

Season 3 just debuted on AMC and so much happened that's gasp-worthy and intriguing in a "What's next?" kinda way that to write it out is to spoil it for anyone who DVR'd it. Sure, a bunch of zombies get killed, things aren’t quite what they seem, and Carl’s getting pretty handy with a gun and hand-to-hand zombie-fighting is pretty intense (I could probably do it if I had to, but I'd almost certainly be bad at it).

GarlicksKids refusing to follow their parents into the family business is a time-honored tradition in fiction and in real life. But what if your parents are vampires and you’d rather do your own thing? That’s the fun premise behind Lea Hernandez’s new Indiegogo project, The Garlicks.

Hernandez is an award-winning writer/artist who’s already notched five graphic novels so she knows what she’s doing. Lea has a terrific cartooning style that’s bright, expressive and full of fun, perfect for vampire comedy. And she’s got a pile of fans that include Neil Gaiman, Jim Lee and Kurt Busiek, who all know a good thing when they see it.

And you will too, once you head over to Indiegogo and have a look.

Tarot Card of DeathSo here’s a news story that you just hate to read.

The body of a missing journalist was discovered in the backyard of two acquaintances, “placed in a plastic container and entombed in concrete.” The alleged killers went to a lot of trouble in a case that includes a U-Haul, Florida, Georgia, twins, and the serial numbers on “implanted dental hardware.”

Here’s what makes the story of interest to comic book people, and what makes me think some collectibles might be a strong motive: The alleged killers and their victim “were acquaintances likely through a comic book shop in Florida because they were all involved in a trading card game.”

Be careful who you allegedly play with, gamers.
