Apple set to launch 7.85-inch iPad mini on November 2

Geeky Gadgets is reporting that it's received a report from a UK-based retailer that the iPad mini is set to launch on November 2 in North America and the UK. Further, pre-orders for the smaller iPad tablet should begin on October 26th, three days after Apple's iPad mini event is held in San Jose, California. The November 2 date just makes sense--it's 10 days after the Apple event, and it's a Friday, which is typically how Apple rolls with these kinds of hardware releases. So, if you're interested in picking up one of the new iPad mini units, it looks like November 2 is your day.

Beats Pill Bluetooth speaker launches at $199

It's not just the Beats Executive on-ear headphones that are new from Beats Audio, as the company has also released it's own portable Bluetooth speaker: the Beats Pill. Yes, it's a pill-shaped speaker, likely a play on the fact that it's part of the Beats by Dr. Dre line, and doctors prescribe pills. Anyhow, cheesy concept aside, the Pill brings 12 watts of power across four 1-inch drivers into it's contoured frame, made up of metal grilles and soft-touch plastic. The rechargeable battery can pump out up to 7.5 hours of tunes, and offers NFC support for easy pairing with Bluetooth devices that support the standard (including the upcoming Lumia 920, HTC devices, and all Android Jelly Bean NFC smartphones--the iPhone doesn't have NFC support at this time.) A microphone is also built-in, allowing the Pill to also work as a speakerphone, and a physical audio input lets you connect devices that don't support Bluetooth as well. In the tradition of Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Here Comes Honey Boo-Boo, legendary comic book artist Frank Miller appears tonight on TLC in the premiere of his own reality show: Meet the Millers.

In the debut episode, the award-winning creator and his current girlfriend Kimberly Cox interview a new assistant by testing her coping skills with hammers, phones and how many times she can watch the great one’s trifecta: Robocop 2, Robocop 3 and The Spirit.

Then hijinks ensue as Kimberly heads to a Korean deli to demand to speak to “kimchi,” whom she presumes is the owner, while Frank gives us a sneak preview of his latest graphic novel: The Right Winger & Hippie Puncher, a clever reworking of a rejected DC Comics pitch for The Dark Knight Returns Some More graphic novel.

Beats Executive over-ear headphones now available

Beats Audio has introduced a new model in the head-bumping Beats by Dr. Dre lineup: Beats Executive. These headphones have noise canceling technology built-in and are available today for the tune of $299.95. In addition, the materials used are far superior compared to the popular Beats Studio and Beats Solo models, which are mostly comprised of plastic. Instead, these are made from brushed aluminum and stainless steel, and the ear cups are said to be hand stitched during manufacturing. The Beats Executive feature noise cancellation that's powered by two AAA batteries, which should last for about 25 hours of usage before you need to swap in a fresh pair. You can pick these up now for $300.

Apple sends invites out for October 23 iPad mini event

Right as the Microsoft Surface tablet went on sale for pre-order, Apple sent out invites to it's next press event, where it will reveal the 7.85-inch iPad mini to the world. It's also heavily rumored that a new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display will also be a part of the festivities, as well as an updated Mac mini, and maybe even new iMacs (finally!) As always, we'll have live coverage of everything that goes down, so keep it locked right here on Tuesday at 10:00am PT, where Apple will show off its new hotness from the California Theatre in San Jose.

Microsoft Surface RT starts at $499, Touch Cover sold separately

Microsoft's Surface RT tablet is set to go on sale in just 10 days, and the company is finally ready to reveal price details and tech specs. It's official: Surface RT will sell for $499 for the 32 GB model, $599 for 32 GB with black Touch Cover, and $699 for 64 GB with black touch cover. Pre-orders begin today at 9:00am PT.

What about all those colorful Touch Covers that the company showed off at the Surface unveiling? Those will be sold separately for $120 each. If you prefer the Type Cover, which features mechanical keys, you're looking at $130. Many were speculating that Microsoft would bring Surface to market at an incredibly low $199, but obviously, that extremem measure of cost-cutting just isn't possible. Wanna pre-order one now?
