Apple iPlay Videogame Console Mockup Images
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Hardware, Screenshots,
Someone out there pondered what an Apple-branded game console might look like, and whipped up a few mockups for the world to see. From our perspective, this looks more like a paper shredder and/or office trash can than a game console - but then again, so does the Sony PS3. Check out a few more images after the jump.

No, Apple isn’t throwing it’s hat into the melee that is the videogame console wars with Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. However, someone on the Nintendo Forums has found a few mockups of what looks to be an Apple branded hybrid game console and paper shredder. Check out the link for a few more images.

Simply put, the “Shower-Shower” is a product that automatically cleans a shower stall after each use. Very convenient if you have a stall-type unit, but I am unsure how it might work if you have a bathtub and shower-curtain type of setup. The unit has a control panel that allows you to set up cleaning preferences, and the cleaning arm applies a solution that disinfects, and removes calcium and lime deposits to get rid of that pesky buildup. One thing, this thing is a bit expensive - expect to pay at least $1,144.00 USD.

News Shows Added To iTunes Music Store From NBC, SciFi, and USA
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Corporate News, Portable Audio / Video,
Apple has just added eleven new and classic television shows from NBC, the Sci-Fi Network, and the USA Network to the iTunes Music Store. Shows making their iTunes debut include Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Battlestar Galactica, Monk, Surface, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Dragnet, Law & Order, The Office, Adam 12, and Knight Rider. The video download area on iTunes has been a nice success, garnering almost three million individual downloads since it opened up. Apple is still working with FOX and CBS to get their content on board, and if it happens, Apple will once again have a nice lead ahead of their competition. Pricing for each 320x240 video is still $1.99, and all are FairPlay encrypted. Conan O’Brien has a couple of hour long specials that are selling for $9.99, which some people are getting up in arms over. However, these aren’t the standard nightly episodes of the show, but rather features that have been released on DVD. Yes, they will only play on your iPod and PC - however, buying a Sony UMD movie can be twice the price, and that is only playable on the PSP.

Now this is just plain cool. Chris got bored at work, so instead of actually finding another task to do, he decided to customize his DS to look like something most of us remember hauling around like the brick that it was: the classic Nintendo Game Boy. More pictures are available on the LiveJournal Nintendo DS group.

Microsoft Sued Over 360 Crash and Freezes
Posted by Chris Cardinal Categories: Home Entertainment, Video Games,
It looks like I wasn’t too far off the mark with the future woes of the 360. Reuters is reporting that a man in Chicago is suing Microsoft for rushing the Xbox out the door and delivering a substandard, overheating box that’s good for cooking breakfast, but not much else. (Our words, not his.) It’ll be interesting to see if this develops into a class-action, but Microsoft maintains they have received only a few “isolated” claims of problems that represent a small portion of their total sales.

In Major Nelson’s recent “blogcast”, he states that Microsoft will “probably not” ever support DivX (through Windows Media Center) on Xbox 360. He’s vocal about the fact that it was likely due to people using the popular codec to violate copyright and “backup” DVDs. So apparently all of us who use DivX to encode our home movies to save on storage space are out of luck? Larry…there are a lot of legitimate uses for DivX. Sure, people are using it to violate copyright, but don’t paint everyone with the same brush. DivX is a fantastic codec for people who create their own content and want it to take up the least amount of space possible, while maintaining good video quality.

The Motorola RAZR V3c With EV-DO Hits Verizon
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Smartphones, Wireless / WiFi,
Finally, the Motorola RAZR V3c is set to debut on the Verizon Wireless network, and will be available tomorrow at verizonwireless.com. If you would rather pick it up at a Verizon store or kiosk, you will have to wait until December 12 for the pleasure. From our perspective, the main draw of this RAZR is the fact that is has built in EV-DO support. Other features include V CAST, 30 MB user storage, a 2.2” 176 x 220 internal screen color display, crippled Bluetooth, and a 1.3 megapixel camera. As far as pricing goes, the phone will set you back $199.99 USD after a $100 with the signing of a two-year contract.
